The men that served and the families of the fallen on this Memorial Day deserve our deepest gratitude and respect. Their sacrifices remind us of the true cost of freedom and the courage it takes to protect our nation. As we honor their memory, we must also reflect on the ongoing impact their sacrifices have on loved ones left behind, ensuring we support them through our actions and words. This day is not just a remembrance; it’s a commitment to uphold the values they fought for and to strive for a future that honors their legacy. Thank you and God Bless the USA!!!

Mallard tracking! This map shows the movements of three Mallard drakes tagged near Lake Marion at the beginning of March. Each color on the map is a different duck. They were captured with a rocket net, banded and measured, and fitted with a solar-powered GPS tag worn as a small backpack between their wings. They’re part of a study aiming to better understand the migration routes of the wild Mallards who winter in South Carolina.

During migration, Mallards fly up to 50mph – or faster with a tailwind! The first of these three ducks to move north set off sometime after midnight two days after he was tagged. By 8am, he had made it to Ohio, and his tag was charging so efficiently as he flew that it started taking extra position fixes (the line of overlapping dots just north of the Ohio border) to avoid damage to its battery from overcharging. He then spent a little over a week at a small wetland in central Ohio before moving on up to Canada. The other two ducks (yellow and blue) spent quite a bit longer on the edge of Lake Marion before setting off on their different routes.

For the 9th year in a row, the gates of Featherhorn Farms in South Carolina opened wide to welcome our Purple Heart veterans for a premier hunting experience like no other. 🦌💙

Hosted by local active-duty military, veterans, and incredible volunteers, this retreat featured four morning and three afternoon hunts and the kind of Southern hospitality that makes everyone feel like family. One evening, everyone gathered around the fire for a night of guitar playing that included one of our own Bonfire members. The flames crackled, voices rose in song, and the fellowship was unforgettable. 🔥🎶

The weekend wrapped up with a local fundraiser supporting next year’s hunt, where we were treated to an amazing live performance by Mackie Creek Band. Events like this not only give our Purple Hearts an incredible experience, but also allow us to share the Warrior Bonfire mission with the local community and build lasting support.

A huge thank-you to FeatherHorn Farm, our hosts, and all the generous sponsors who made this special tradition possible:

This past week at Featherhorn , we had the incredible honor of hosting the 12th Annual Purple Heart Hunt, celebrating our brave veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. A huge shout out to Chad Ardis , my brother for always having my back and the team of volunteers to make it 12 years running the best outdoor adventure supporting our heroes!

With the support of the Warrior Bonefire Program and Reason Outdoors, we welcomed 17 hunters, who successfully harvested 27 deer, 6 hogs, and 2 coyotes. Two of our hunters experienced the joy of their first deer, and while only one went home empty-handed, by choice, it was all about the experience and camaraderie!

A massive thank you to our dedicated landowners and guides - your generosity and support made this event possible. Larry Avins, Two Ponds Duck Cub , Milford Plantation, Live Oak, McIntosh Farms, Camden James, Bud Bowman, Walt Martin, Walker Tingen, Lance Browder, Fischer Ardis, Bryce Lyons, Tripp Prosser, Jamie Bateman, Jeff Schneider, Evan Ardis, Brandon Stone, Jordan Stone, Taylor Scott, Roby Kelley, Courtland McIntosh, Richard Spivey, Clayton Carter, Adam Bryant, and Jim Tingin.

Special thanks to our amazing food volunteers who ensured no one went home hungry. Your efforts were truly appreciated!
Robbie Nalley, Layne Osteen, Bill Wingate, Michael James, Gordan Manus, Jeff Charlton, Jeffery Floyd, and Parker Collette.

Collins Lee, Stephanie Ardis , Mellisa Ardis and head supervisor Frankie Ardis for helping finish every detail that Chad and I might have forgot.

I want to give a special shoutout to the incredible young volunteers who worked tirelessly to clean and process the harvest each night, often staying past midnight to support our veterans. Your hard work did not go unnoticed, and we are so proud of you! Graham Lee, Banks Welch, Burns Bateman, Timmy Garrity, Tripp Earnhardt, Wilson Britton, and Jack Burke.
All of Your hard work and dedication are what keep this event running smoothly!

To all our veterans, we appreciate your sacrifices and hope the little bit of time on the farm was what you needed. It was truly an honor to be able to serve you great men.
