One way I maximize yield on a small plot is by rapid turnovers after one crop is done. I had great sucess with cabbages this year but now I need to till the residue in and transplant bell peppers. This is also one of the many reasons I don't like to grow produce on plastic!

Why does organic produce cost more?
Because it's harder to grow! Without synthetic pesticides, insect control is more difficult. Growing a healthy crop with organic fertilizers is more difficult than using synthetic fertilizers. An organic grower is making a choice to do things the hard way because they believe it is the right thing to do, both for the people and for the land.

Why spend more for organic produce?
While there are many reasons people choose to support organic food production, the most important to me personally is what Aldo Leopold called "the land ethic." I think we as humans can grow food with more respect for the land and all the other creatures we share the earth with.
