I thought I would put this out there. I have seen many posts about wanting a Purebred Arabian C**t of Filly, trained with pictures and videos for prices that to me are ridiculous. So I wanted to share some information with everyone. Breeders with Stallions that are National Champions or from Champion Bloodlines and Mares of the same caliber, are an investment towards producing quality foals consistently. In reality even when we sell a foal, we are losing money. I know from personal experience. FOUR foals cost an average (pre breeding to on the ground) of $50K each to produce. I own a National Champion Stallion. I own Mares out of National and International Champions. I do not have an on site reproduction facility on the farm.
So please, when you consider selling a c**t, filly, stallion or mare, please do not devalue these incredible horses by offering them at flea market prices.
The average cost to breed an Arabian foal in the US can range from $3,500 to over $30,000, not including the cost of the mare originalky or month's of raising the foal. The total price depends heavily on the stallion's stud fee, which varies from a few hundred dollars to $20,000.
Semen handling: Costs for shipping semen, especially frozen semen, can add to the total.
Mare and veterinary costs
Pre-breeding exams: A pre-breeding ultrasound and reproductive tract exam are necessary, which can cost several hundred dollars per cycle.
Estrus cycle management: Monitoring the mare's cycle can cost between $300 and $600.
Hormones and medications: Hormones and other necessary medications are an additional cost.
Broodmare care: Depending on the mare's health, additional costs may arise from issues like colic.
Foaling and foal care
Foaling event: While some owners foaling at home may only need to budget for basic supplies, using a professional foaling stall can cost $300–$500 or more.
Newborn foal care: Costs increase for a newborn due to initial veterinary care, vaccinations, and potential increased feed or supplement needs.
Other considerations
Registration: Registering the foal with a breed association will have a fee based on the foal's age.
Transportation: Costs will increase if the mare needs to be transported to a breeding facility.
