This guy brews some very very great and special beers. Congrats for the well-deserved awards Mark Duchow.
Breweries worldwide sent over 8,000 beers representing 140 different styles to the 2021 U.S. Open Beer Championship in Oxford, OH, one of the top 3 beer competitions in the U.S. Winners were announced Sept., 6, 2021, and Byway Brewing is proud to acknowledge and congratulate our brewmaster, Mark Duchow, for winning a gold medal for his Rye Bob Ale and a silver medal for his Shinobi Export Stout. Mark also took home 3rd Place honors in this year’s Indiana Brewer’s Cup with his Glory for the Fallen barrel-aged American Wild Ale on July 10th.
Rye Bob falls in the German Rye Beer Category 15D and has a rich, complex, viscous mouthfeel but is quaffable at just 5.0%. It is amber in color with a fading dense crown, earthy and malty with subdued spice notes from the rye and finishes clean with a mild hop kick for balance.
Shinobi Export Stout is in the Foreign Extra Stout Category 13D and has deep roasted espresso/dark chocolate notes, is blackish/brown in color and finishes with a notable yet balanced roasted malt/hop bitterness.
Glory for the Fallen was entered under the America Wild Ale Category 28B and is a tart, light-bodied raspberry ale with a bit of spice and a playful funk.
We invite you to visit Byway Brewing soon to try these and other fine ales and lagers as well as our outstanding chef-driven food offerings. Mark will be glad you did.
