It is very sad to hear and see information about adulterated/fake honey. We need better labeling practices so that consumers understand what is in the product they purchased and where the honey is from. Unfortunately, the US imports about 70% of honey from other countries. Know your beekeeper and the source of honey. Cheap honey isn’t often real and real honey isn’t cheap!

I opened this mating nuc up and a frame had three previous JZBZ queen cups that were still in place. The bees decided to use these as swarm cells or supercedure cells. None of these were capped but you can see they added royal jelly and there is a larvae in that cup! It is the strangest thing I have seen in a while.

Honey extraction 2026 is complete. I haven’t weighed the buckets yet but I’m guessing this year I am down 50-60% compared to last year across 4 apiaries.
Big winner this year are the spring feet from Hill Co and the hop spider filter. I have tried filtering the honey as I’m extracting and the filters just couldn’t keep up. Thanks to Brian at for this tip!
