Introducing CHICKADEE FARM SGC LOVE POTION, “Archer,” our new Nigerian Dwarf buck. He is the stinkiest of boys and not sorry!

After losing my sweet Apollo, I debated not even breeding my NDs this year, but we saw that a local 4H family (with amazing goats) was dispersing most of their ND herd and decided to welcome this pretty dude to the herd. Being local, we even got to see some of his last year’s babies at the fair and one of them *might* have placed over my Serena who I adored the look of from birth. So, expecting good things from this guy.

Our sweet cashmere goats were very concerned with Emma climbing on the roof to harvest elderberries.

Emma found a surprise chick under Franny last night and this is the only picture I took because Fran was not pleased with us taking her baby 😅 Poor girl has gone broody three years in a row and never managed to actually hatch anything, so we are so happy for her and quickly gave her little fluff ball back. Luckily, we have plenty of other sweet babies eager to snuggle in the goat pastures.

Our apple trees decided to show off this year with an abundance of beautiful fruit, so we tried our hand at homemade c***r with our early ripening variety. 5-6 gallons from a single tree! 🤯 Feels like we are getting an early taste of fall to send everyone back to school next week.

The dairy and fiber goats we took to the 4H fair got goat colds and the vet recommended quarantining them from our other goats for a couple weeks once we got home, so we have some creative combinations of shared fences with a few Nigerian Dwarfs and a few sassy cashmere does. The most surprising thing to come of it is the jealousy brooding between Ranger (spoiled bottle baby wether) and Kodi (sweetest old girl ever).

Typically Kodi loves all goats and even chose Jean (another ND) as her emotional support goat towards the end of her pregnancy. But let it be known: do not mess with her snuggles!

As show day went on, we spent more time running our Nigerian dwarf goats back and forth while I rotated between the arena and my ice machine for my shoulder, and I failed at getting pretty posed pictures. I did get a few of them showing at least!

Started off 4H dairy goat show day with our fiber goats: Silas, Snow and Sylvie. We only competed against ourselves and one other friend, but got the chance to show off our pretty goats and speak to many people about raising cashmere goats for fiber.

Loaded up the kids in the new trailer for the county fair! All 11 fiber/dairy goats are checked in for Tuesday’s show. Michael and Emma did a great job shaving all the dairy goats (I might’ve helped one handed with the udders 🤫). I even got to visit some of my favorite friends (and their humans) in nearby stalls before my shoulder decided 2 hours was enough. Note to self, bring ice machine and chair for show day.

Send some good vibes for a smooth fair our way! And if you see Emma milking, remind her she’s doing great! Twice a day solo milking is lot to take on at 12.

The original fidget toy: trumpet vine buds! Sending love to my grandma in the form of popping trumpet vine buds. She had the most beautiful vines growing up the side of her clothes line and we would always get caught popping the buds.

We finally found the right used trailer for our goats! Silver lining of being off for recovery was seeing it within the hour it was listed (yay for feeling productive!). So many got snatched up quicker than we could act on them in the past few months.

Added bonus was that we bought it from another dairy goat herd, so we can continue its legacy of hauling goats to and from the fair.

And to top it off, it’s pretty with teal swirls🤩
