When we first started brewing in Hazelwood, we always wanted focus on European styles & lagers, and less on hop forward beers. However one of our first offerings was foot in both of those worlds, a Nelson Sauvin dry hopped Belgian ale called “Flowers Lean Toward the Sun”. It became an instant fan favorite, but as we fine tuned our offerings and brewed more & more lagers, Flowers unfortunately got put on the back burner. While we always envisioned bringing back Flowers (even prematurely purchasing labels over a year ago), our tanks remained full and it became harder & harder to fit it into our schedule.

However this year, we were finally able to find an opening in the schedule, and “Flowers Lean Toward the Sun” is finally back. This Belgian-style India Pale Ale is fermented with a farmhouse yeast strain & dry hopped with Nelson Sauvin hops, making for a very complex sip. Offering something for both the hop head and the Belgian ale enthusiast.

Available now on draft and in 4-PKs at our Hazelwood location and throughout the Pittsburgh area at reputable purveyors of craft beer.

As the summer winds down, our Oktoberfest lager, “Gemütlichkeit”, makes its triumphant return. Our take on the style is Festbier + Märzen hybrid lager. An easy drinking lager that is lighter in color & in body with a subtle malty backbone. “Gemütlichkeit” is used to convey the idea of a state or feeling of warmth, friendliness, & good cheer.

Our third annual Oktoberfest at The Hazelwood Brew House is Saturday 9/26. There will be German inspired food options each day, festive music, & the Oktoberfest Olympics. Stay tuned for more details.

Gemütlichkeit is available now on draft and in 4-PKs at our Hazelwood location and throughout the Pittsburgh area at reputable purveyors of craft beer.

[DOUBLE CAN RELEASE]

Today we are releasing new versions of both of our rotating ingredient beers.

Savoir Faire [ORANGE] is the newest iteration in our fruited Berliner Weisse series. This session sour ale is kettle soured and conditioned on tangerine purée. This beer starts with a burst of tartness and finishes bright with the light sweetness of the tangerine. Perfect to combat the summer heat.

Lupulin Nouveau # 010 is a combination of old school and new school. Amarillo (a mainstream hop since the 90s) is the dominant hop added to both the whirlpool & the dry hop addition and provides notes of citrus, tropical fruit, & spice. Anchovy (a new experimental hop that has gained recent notoriety) is the complimentary hop added during the dry hop addition and provides notes of candy, red fruit, & pine … with zero notes of fish.

Both beers are available now on draft and in 4-PKs at our Hazelwood location and throughout the Pittsburgh area at reputable purveyors of craft beer.

[YEAR TWO]

Toward the end of our first year, things irrevocably changed at NFBC and very much for the better. After feeling a bit listless as year one wound down, we were able to refocus and reclaim the steering wheel. We focused in on what makes us successful and set our eyes on a plan for sustainable growth. Through all the bumps & bruises, highs & lows, countless hours of work & lost sleep, the brewery has grown but more importantly, it regained its focus. We simplified NFBC.

We made our static beers (“Something Analog” & “Lupulin Nouveau”) our foundation, and we diverted our attention back to what made us who we are, our lager program. Wholesale became our horse, and we have fostered and maintained over a hundred great relationships with the Pittsburgh area’s best purveyors of craft beer. We have also laid the foundations of what will be our second location. We have signed a lease for a small taproom in the War Streets Neighborhood directly across the street from the iconic, Randyland. We will continue to update you all as we get further along in the process.

To commemorate our second anniversary, we are releasing “Didn’t See This Coming”. This beer was named for a lack of foresight, as never anticipated NFBC being this far ahead of schedule after only year two. “Didn’t See This Coming” is our Belgian-style Tripel, “Blindfold”, aged for over six months in French Oak Red Wine Barrels sourced from one of Napa’s finest wineries. Available on draft and in 4-PKs at our Hazelwood location on Friday the 12th and (as always) throughout the Pittsburgh area at reputable purveyors of craft beer.

Please join us on Friday, June 12th from 5-10pm for our anniversary party. Thank you again to all of those who helped to support our idea and get us this far.

[CAN RELEASE]

Another summertime hit is back in the NFBC lineup. Our Belgian White Ale, Joie De Vivre, is here just in time for the summer heat. Joie De Vivre was originally one of our static beers but is now one of our summer mercurial offerings. Same great beer as before just with a new label. This ale is brewed with coriander and orange peel & fermented with a Belgian yeast strain. This makes for a complex sip but is still easy to drink & very refreshing.

Available now on draft and in 4-PKs at our Hazelwood location and throughout the Pittsburgh area at reputable purveyors of craft beer.

[CAN RELEASE]

ÆSTĀS is our newest mercurial lager release for the summertime. ÆSTĀS \\ pronounced ay-sta-s \\ is Latin for summer. This light & refreshing session lager with lime is perfect for the warm weather and is best enjoyed out in the sun (whether here on the rooftop deck at the Hazelwood Brew House or at your favorite sun-soaked drinking spot).

Available now on draft and in 4-PKs at our Hazelwood location and throughout the Pittsburgh area at reputable purveyors of craft beer.
