🤘 Thanks to everyone who came through for the last Silver Lake Presents show of the Summer!

Along with our friends at Potency and Silver Lake Booking we were so excited to welcome back Modern Ego who headlined the show with support from The Ugly Stage Grief Group lifeabuse and AGONISTA BAND who was a late addition to the bill and traveled all the way from Tijuana!

As always, we love putting on these shows, and giving independent artists a place to connect with fans and likeminded folks. In between the songs themselves, Life Abuse’s lead singer reminded us how important it is to have each others’ backs through these hard times and it really resonated with all of us.

Thanks again to Potency, the bands, Silver Lake, and the fans who keep making this all so fun.

📚🍻 At the GB Farmers’ Market last week, a non-beer drinker sampled Capable of Anything, liked it, and described it as “beer for people who read.,” which obviously made our day.

Since we are a bookish crew, we wanted to share a recommendation of one of the best books we read this summer: ADA by Mark Haber

Ada was just published last month at Coffee House Press and Mike just got it from the Berkshire Athenaeum | Pittsfield's Public Library 📚 this week. It’s a very short novel (90 pages told in a single, manic paragraph). And it’s a hilarious rambling of a mad king pining for the return of Ada, a one-night stand from the narrator’s youth.

It’s a super-quick read and it’s filled with an unbelievable amount one laugh-out-loud one-liners.

We’re pairing this one with our Agent Cooper Coffee Stout becuse of its dark and playful style, and the coffee from ᴍᴏɴꜱᴏᴏɴ ʀᴏᴀꜱᴛᴇʀʏ ᴄᴏꜰꜰᴇᴇ 🌱☕️🔥 adds a lot of interesting character to the beer, just like this Mad King. (And because, you know, the publisher is Coffeehouse Press.)

Shout out to our pals State 64 for helping us complete our biggest (and longest) can run to date! We had 5 different styles, canned more than 200 cases of beer, and almost 5,000 individual cans!

This means we’ve got more Gold Tooth, Hop Riot, Lion’s Ale, and Deep Cuts coming your way—plus a few special releases we’ll be announcing soon. 🤫

For those of you who didn’t know, this is the second year that Massachusetts has allowed breweries to sell 4-packs at Farmers Markets, and every Friday, Sarah’s been heading down to Lenox, which is new to us this year.

Over the course of the season, we’ve loved getting to know fellow vendors their like Common Hands Farm from NY and our literal neighbors Mill Brook Sugar House.

We’ve been dreaming up some collab recipes using ingredients from their operations and are looking forward to teaming up later in the year for some small batches.

🚨 Collab alert! 🚨

Apparently, today is International Beer Day, and it seemed as good a time as any to let you all know the exciting news: Although we had to say goodbye to our friends at Big Elm earlier this year, it’s not the end of Das Boot!

Earlier this week, Sarah, Christine Bump , and Elizabeth L'Etoile from Four Star Farms brewed this year’s batch of Das Boot, festbier we’ll be launching just in time for Oktoberfest.

For those of you who don’t know, Big Elm started brewing Das Boot as a collab with the women in beer in Western MA several years ago, and we wanted to keep this tradition alive here at Hot Plate.

We’ll have it on draft and in cans, and we’ll have more to come as we get closer to launch!

🎉📚 Book nerds: Mike is double-fisting these novels because we’re ending the summer with 2 literary events!

This month’s Hot Plate Book Club selection is WHITE NOISE by Don DeLillo, a throwback pick from one of Mike’s favorite writers. We’ll be meeting in the taproom to discuss it on Wednesday, August 26 at 7pm

The following night, Mike will be teaming up with (indie) to moderate a Q&A celebrating the launch of (Shelley) new novel LOVE ME LIKE A ROCK SONG. This event will be on Thursday, August 27 at 7pm at Indie Readery & Records.
