Cover crop cruising along. Timing is everything; our Rye/Vetch mix sown in the fall of ‘22 will probably go another week before we mow it, then turn it into the soil with a heavy disc. We mow first to allow the accumulated Nitrogen in the nodules of the Rhizobium to be released (a symbiotic arrangement where a an organism gets food from vetch plants and lives on its roots , and in exchange convert atmospheric Nitrogen into a form plants can use) back into the soil. The rye and the vegetative compounds from the Vetch provide lots of Carbon and a nutrient rich boost for the soil biota, which will convert to broken down, bioavailable compounds for our Cann_bi$ crop in a few weeks.

Well everybody, it’s springtime here in the Berkshires and it’s time to do it all over again. Pro-tip: cooler cloudy days are perfect for transplanting as that reduces shock on the plant. Potting up some of our type-2 variety for a nice all-day smoker, and seeding a little extra. It’s a cross between cherry wine (cbd) & OG Kush. I’m throwing in a little worm castings in these 1qt. pots. These will go a while before we s*x them and cull males and anything peculiar. Both cultivars are early finishers and have excellent structure & blight resistance for our moody, exciting climate up here. We’ll be putting bulk of our crop in next week, so stay tuned.

Resource optimization in action. We use our greenhouse year-round for propagation, light-dep runs, and can you believe for slow drying our outdoor cannabis? With our Nexus systems’ slick environmental controls we can dial in the vpd for optimum plant health or ideal rH & temp to ensure we slowly breakdown chlorophyll and preserve terpenes.
