If you know anything about Chris, you know that he likes to do projects, maintenance, and work at our place himself. He very rarely will hire somebody to do a job. I am very blessed because he is extremely talented patient and intelligent and can do almost anything he sets his mind to . Unfortunately, he does need a helper when it comes to trimming the livestock guardian dogs nails. I would be THAT helper. Unfortunately, I am way too intimidated to be of service with this task. Gus knows at 180 pounds he can pull away from me so easily. There is no way I can hold him still. With him being so nervous that then in turn makes me very nervous. Fiona is not a fan of nail trimming either. Her size isn’t the problem with me, but her demeanor can be intimidating for me. Clearly I am NOT the Alpha in this house! Since they are always outside in the pasture, there really is no hard surface for them to wear their nails down on their own. His went to the vet a few months back and was great when they cut his nails. This time we decided to just take Fiona along, too. They were both great and no problem! Here is our ride back home. These two only go for a car ride to go to the vet’s office and they love it! Well- Gus probably likes it the most because no one, including Fiona, loves him panting all over us!

All kinds of confusion on the farm today! “Champ” the Hereford steer broke the old coop nesting box doors several times. Since we built the new coop, most of the old hens have been laying in the coop so I figured I would remove the nesting boxes from the old coop. While in the process, Champ tried to enter the old coop! I will post a video next of one of the hens inside the coop trying to figure out where the nesting boxes were. Never a dull moment.

The calm before the storm. So humid it felt like soup out there. Beautiful skies and so peaceful. We are so blessed❤️

This is the first time we have had a hen successfully hatch her own eggs. This girl has been sitting on a nest for weeks. She has had 2 healthy chicks hatch so far and I think is sitting on another 6 eggs. There is a second hen sitting on about 6 more eggs- she is NOT friendly. We cleaned out the coop and removed all the unviable eggs and changed out the chips.

The herbs, veg and flowers went in the garden 2 weeks later than normal this year. While I was out there transplanting everything, I heard a loud buzzing nearby. I continued on w my work and eventually got to a spot in my row where it was VERY loud. I went over to take a look and was a little nervous at first when I tried to peel back the petals on the Poppy. Pleasantly surprised to find a pollen covered bee trapped inside.

We ordered 50 chicks from Crackle Hatchery. 53 were delivered- all arrived earlier than we expected and they ALL look amazing! We are so blessed to be able to raise our own hens that provide us and our friends with fresh eggs- what a privilege it is!

Mowed the pool yard and of course the beggars came to the fence. The steer have no personal space!
