Ah, the 2023 Hillside Mélange

This beautiful Rhône blend of Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viogner hasn’t been in our tasting room since 2011.

And with it being in 2 of 3 of our clubs and Paul only making 103 cases of it, it probably won’t last long either. Once we start getting too low, it will be pulled from the tasting room to make sure we don’t run out of it so that all of our club members have it for when they come in to get their February pick up, whenever that may be.

So get it while you can because there’s no telling if Paul will make it again next year or wait another 14.

Dark Chocolate, Blue Cheese, and New-World Port.

Now before you say you don’t like blue cheese or don’t like port, let me tell you a little story about our Tasting Room Manager Julia.

Now before Julia was our Tasting Room Manager she was (actually still is) a wine club member. And the first time her and her husband came in after winning a year membership at the silent auction at the Harvest Festival at Schnell School in 2011 it was Port Month (something we did every February). And we were doing a dark chocolate and blue cheese competition.

Well, they looked at each other and Julia said “I hate blue cheese” and Todd said “I hate port” but they couldn’t very well turn around or be rude and say no, so they participated.

Well, the two of them left with multiple ports, went to Dedrick’s Cheese to get blue cheese (because the type of blue cheese matters) made chocolates and made her family do the same competition for her birthday because they were now so in love with port and blue cheese.

So you never know what might happen when you try something you don’t like in a different way.

So, come by this weekend to enjoy this complementary flight of ‘05, ‘10, & ‘14 New-World Port with dark chocolate and blue cheese with your love, love of port or love of trying something new.

New-World Port Vertical

Come in this weekend to taste our ‘01, ‘09, & ‘14 New-World Ports and also learn why we can actually call them “port” instead of “port-style”.

Join us in our cozy tasting room, by the fire, while you watch the rain as you enjoy a flight or a glass of our estate grown wines.

And no, there is no snow in the forecast.

We are open 11-5pm every day.

Recently one of our club members made a comment to our Tasting Room Manager Julia to the effect of “It must by great to have a job that always makes people smile.”

And you know what? She’s not wrong.

While it’s true, we all take what we do here very seriously. It starts with Paul and Maggie wanting to highlight the uniqueness of the Sierra Foothills, to the vineyard crew who are equally as passionate about sustainability as Paul is (they played a big role in why we make Grenache Rosé), to the tasting room staff that want to leave you with a little more wine knowledge than you walked in with.

We also, ultimately, want you to leave with a smile on your face and maybe a soft spot in your heart for this 50+ year old family run winery.

Thanks for that reminder Vicki

There’s a common misconception that when wine tasting you want to have carbs in your belly to help “absorb” the alcohol. But that’s simply not true. While eating plain crackers in between wines can be helpful in cleansing the palate, they won’t do anything to slow the absorption of alcohol.

For that, you need protein. Protein helps to keep you feeling fuller longer and also helps slow the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream. When wine tasting, cheese is an excellent pairing because there are so many wonderful varieties that can stay neutral or enhance the wine tasting experience.

Here at Madroña Maggie Bush only buys cheese that she has tasted and knows will complement each of our wines. It’s all in the details you know.

If you learned something new today drop a 🧀 down in the comments 😁
