Hatching facts, Internal Pipping: When it's time to hatch, the peachick uses its egg tooth to break through the inner membrane and access the air pocket at the blunt end of the egg. This allows them to take their very first breath. [1, 2]

External Pipping: After resting, the peachick forces the egg tooth outward to chip the actual eggshell, creating the very first crack. [1, 2]

Zipping: The peachick slowly rotates inside the egg, continuously pecking to create a circular line of cracks around the top of the shell. [1, 2, 3]

Shedding: Once the hatching process is complete, the egg tooth has served its purpose. It usually dries up and naturally falls off within a few days to a week after hatching
