Loving what we do as farmers means loving our animals deeply—but it also means carrying the weight of the hard days. Some of the hardest are the days we have to say goodbye.
Saturday, we said farewell to Star, our nearly 28-year-old Belgian mare. Before her retirement, Star helped create countless special memories for so many people, pulling the sleighs and wagons that brought smiles, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
She was an incredible mother to many amazing foals who are carrying on her legacy, including Luna and Breeze, who you can still visit here on the farm. She is also the dam to Storm, Rocky, Clover, and Chuck. Star wasn’t just a wonderful dam to her own, but she also helped care for other mare’s foals, which is so rare! Thankfully, her smiles and funny faces when getting her belly or neck scratched was passed on, and she will always be remembered by this trait on all her foals!
Rest easy, Star. You will always be a true gentle giant—and forever a star.
