Pick of the Week:
Bedell Cellars Pinot Gris
North Fork of Long Island, New York 2025

Regular: $25
This week: (through Monday, Sept.14): $21

Bedell Cellars were founded on the North Fork in 1980 by Kip and Susan Bedell. In 2000 movie producer Michael Lynne acquired the winery. The grapes are certified sustainable and are grown on three vineyard sites across seventy-five acres. The winery team hand harvest and sort the grapes which are then fermented with 100% naturally occurring wild yeasts. The North Fork's maritime climate with ocean breezes that are cooling in summer and warmly moderating in winter supplies consistent rainfall and a narrow temperature range, ideal for growing grapes.

This light-bodied Pinot Gris wine is elegant, with a distinct saline minerality and crisp, bright acidity. It boasts a deceptively full mouthfeel, delicate white floral notes, almond and hazelnut aromatics with flavors of cantalope, pear and tart apples followed by a clean, refreshing finish.

Pairs well with: Baked sole, halibut, cod, flounder, poached salmon, lemon-garlic chicken, vegetable quiche, your favorite summer salads, fish tacos, grain bowls, lobster rolls, seafood salad, crab cakes, seafood risotto, shrimp scampi, baked scallops, pasta primavera in a light cream sauce, cheese such as Havarti, Fontina or fresh Mozzarella.

Pick of the Week:
Artuke Crianza Rioja, Spain 2025

Regular: $15
This week (through Mon., Aug. 24): $12

An organic and biodynamic family-owned estate in Baños del Ebro, Rioja Alavesa, Artuke helped define the pioneering new wave of village and single vineyard Rioja wines.

They manage over 74 acres of vineyards and are renowned for their unique approach to winemaking by focusing on a terroir-driven philosophy and diverging from Rioja's traditional blending and barrel aging methods. Working organically, often with whole clusters, they make fragrant, medium-bodied Tempranillo wines that emphasize finesse, freshness and sense of place over oak and heaviness.

The de Miguel family's winemaking journey began with their grandfather's planting of Tempranillo and Graciano vines on a hillside they fondly call Finca de los Locos. Roberto, his son, transitioned the business in 1991 from selling bulk wine to bottling his own creations and distributing them door to door. Roberto's sons, Arturo, with a Masters in Enology, and K**e, whose combined names form "Artuke", took the helm in the early 2000s and honed their craft to capture the essence of individual vineyards and villages by recuperating old, abandoned vineyards and making new, single vineyard wines.

This medium-bodied, 95% Tempranillo and 5% Viura wine is very elegant with bright, juicy ripe red fruit. Vibrant, aromatic with floral notes and red berries on the nose and velvety almost imperceptible tannins on the palate, it is pure, harmonious and an easy-drinking everyday Rioja. Bottled in neutral oak after three to six months in concrete tanks.

Pairs well with: roast lamb, game, slow braised pork, tapas, cured meats such as jamon or chorizo, your favorite steak or cheeseburger, wild mushroom risotto, roasted vegetables, cheeses such as Manchego, Idiazábal, or Iberica.

Pick of the Week:
Fanti Rosso di Montalcino Tuscany, Italy 2023

Regular: $21
This week: (through Mon., Aug. 3rd ): $17

Filippo Baldassarre Fanti's estate is located near Castelnuovo dell'Abate on the southern side of the appellation. The organic estate vineyards are fanned out within three kilometers of the winery, and the various soil types are a mixture of galestro rich schist and limestone alberese which contribute complexity, structure, elegance and depth to its Sangiovese-based wines.

This 100% Sangiovese wine shows an intense and persistent bouquet dominated by ripe red fruit notes of cherries, raspberry and hints of dried raisin shaped by a warm vintage. The texture is notably meaty and thick with the finish driven by primary fruit. Delicate and elegant tannins are well integrated into the wine’s structure. The fruity component, consistent with the nose, is initially predominant, then gradually gives way to balsamic notes of rhubarb. The palate is fresh, with a pleasant minerality and a balanced, long-lasting finish. The wine sees twelve months of aging in botte and barrel and is sourced from over 34.5 acres of vineyards with total production reaching 32,000 bottles.

Pairs well with: Roasted red meats such as steak, lamb chops, pork roast, rich stews, chicken cacciatore, hearty pastas such as lasagna, Pasta Pomodoro, pasta Bolognese, spaghetti and meatballs, pizza with tomatoes, basil and garlic, mushroom risotto with thyme and sage, eggplant Parmesan, pappardelle pasta with mushrooms, roasted vegetables, grilled pannini sandwiches with sliced tomatoes, prosciutto and Pecorino cheese, stuffed red peppers, gnocchi with a sage and butter sauce, cheeses such as hard or soft Pecorino, Parmigiano Reggiano, or Asiago.

Pick of the Week:
Boundary Breaks Chardonnay Unoaked Finger Lakes, New York 2024

Regular: $22
This week: (through Mon., 7/27): $19

Boundary Breaks Winery is located in the Finger Lakes and focuses on cool-climate grape varietals, chiefly Riesling, Gewurtztrminer and Cabernet Franc. They began in 2009 planting vines near the eastern shore of Seneca Lake, in a unique microclimate zone where the western-facing vineyard slopes benefit from prolonged afternoon sun exposure. The lake is more than 700 feet deep so it keeps their vineyard site warmer during the cold of winter. The results are a powerful flavor profile achieved by ensuring their fruit reaches a maximum level of ripeness in the vineyard.

Boundary Breaks released their first vintage in 2013. This classic style of unoaked Chardonnay originated in the Chablis region of France and is lighter and more refreshing than the more common style oaky Chardonnays. Cooler climates like the Finger Lakes can produce stunning examples of this light, unoaked Chardonnay.

This medium-bodied plus Chardonnay is bright with a round body and delicious finish. The wine is left "on the lees" after fermentation in order to soften the acidity and add creaminess to the wine. The aromatic bouquet of floral and apples combined with the crisp minerality make for a delightful Chablis style Chardonnay. It pairs well with every food you would squeeze lemon juice on.

Pairs well with: Baked sole, halibut, cod, flounder, poached salmon, lemon-garlic chicken, vegetable quiche, your favorite summer salads, fish tacos, grain bowls, lobster rolls, seafood salad, crab cakes seafood risotto, shrimp scampi, baked scallops, pasta primavera in a light cream sauce, cheese such as Havarti, Fontina or fresh Mozzarella.

Ain't no party like a Washington Party! We know that George Washington used to belly up to the bar at the Warren Tavern in Charlestown, but after stumbling across a very impressive bar tab from 1787 for Washington's farewell party in Philly, it's making wonder, did the people of the 18th century dri...
