This steer was born to be a barn baby. All he needs is a best friend to show him and love him.

And here is day three for the steer in a halter. 100% unaffected. First-time showman material for sure.

Only the second day with a halter on. He stood for me to brush all over and even clip on his topline and neck a little. He will be a perfect show steer for a beginner.

Congratulations to Kennedy on her success with Nico!

Today was a transition day at J Bar C. We sheared off the show heifers and turned the two springs out to join the cow herd. Nikki got a bath after her haircut. She will stay in the showbarn for another year since she’s a fall-born.
We loaded Nova and Gina and took them to the cows, checked out the new babies and loved on Karma a bit (which is weird because she usually isn’t interested in that) 🧡🧡
Then we sorted the bull and steer and brought them to the showbarn to start their journeys to the show ring.
I always dread turning out show heifers. It makes me sad to not have them in the barn. Glad we filled their pens right away and am excited to get the boys going.

From State Fair straight into fall calving. Perfect timing.

Our family is several generations deep in 4-H and various youth organization involvement. Tonight we enjoyed hosting our local 4-H Livestock Club to talk about showing cattle. We are always happy to share what we’ve learned and to learn from others.
