Chloe 2009 - 2020
It was on this day, in 2020, that our Princess took her final journey to the Rainbow Bridge. Sweet Chloe, what can we say? Your presence is felt every day. We named Chloe’s Market after you fulfilling a promise I made to you all those years ago. Your legacy lives on little girl. The profits from the store are helping so many orphans now. WE hang your picture proudly in the store and every day we get to look at you.
For 11 years, Chloe was by our side, never letting us out of sight.
From the day she chose us as her forever family, Chloe wanted to sit on our lap, be next to us outside or cuddle up to us in bed.
The most affectionate and loveable Akita, Chloe was just a soul full of love for everyone.
From her early days at MARS, she was one of the three blonde buns and favorite of everyone who was blessed to meet her
So, let me tell you all how Chloe wiggled her way into our hearts.
We lost two Akitas in October 2008, Kenji and Kira. We had a third, Koda, who was lost without his brother and sister.
We decided to wait a bit before adopting another Akita as we all needed time to grieve
Fast forward to June 2009 when I contacted Deanna at MARS.
We started to chat about our lives, Koda and what had happened the previous year.
Deanna suggested that I get in contact with one of the volunteers at the kennels in Chardon, Ohio and look at pics of the orphans.
There was one girl who caught our eye, Rayah (who is known by another name now).
I made a plane reservation to travel from Boston and rented a car and left in August 2009.
I made a hotel reservation halfway to Boston as I knew the new addition would be stressed out, so wanted to stop overnight and let them relax a bit.
When I got there, Dawn brought out Rayah. What a beautiful little girl.
But, about 50 feet away, there was another Akita outside jumping up and down like a Tigger. Literally, the dog was bouncing like she had a spring in her tail.
I asked Dawn who the bouncy one was and she said her name was Chloe. Dawn had this little smirk on her face.
I asked about Chloe. Dawn told me she was a kennel favorite, known as one of the Three Blonde Buns. She had come into rescue at about 4 months of age and was now 9 months.
Dawn suggested that we take them both for a walk. I took Rayah, Dawn took Chloe.
All through our 15-minute walk, Chloe kept running back to me every few minutes and nudge my hand. She would then run up with Dawn, but come back again, as almost to say, “I am going home with you.”
I had never seen anything like it.
Well, her magic worked. After that walk, she stole my heart. The universe spoke clear and loud that day of where Chloe should be.
We got in the car and drove to NY and stayed for the night. Once in the hotel room, she immediately bolted to the bed, got up. She just looked a wit a look in her eyes, “well, are you coming to bed?”
That began the 11-year period that enriched our lives.
Baby girl, you were our everything. Through the loss of Koda, Poukha, Benny and Nicky, you were there to console us.
The most affectionate Akita we have known, your capacity for kisses was unlimited. You greeted me every day with loud Akita woo woos and wagged your tail so hard we started to call you wiggle butt.
Every morning you would roll over on top of my chest and wake me up so you could get your belly rubs. Princess Chloe had a life of leisure.
Your bench in the backyard will always be there for you to rest your head upon.
The house in Vermont will now be empty without you.
I will never hear that wonderful voice of yours every time I walk in the door.
Our precious little girl, we love you and there will not be a day that passes that we will not think of you
