Today is national cheddar day! Add a slice of history to your charcuterie board!
In 1890, President Coolidge's father, John Coolidge and other local farmers built a cheese factory next to the Coolidge farm in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. Plymouth Cheese operated until 1934 and was reopened in 1960 by the President's son John. In 1998 John Coolidge turned the cheese factory over to The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation. Today the State of Vermont leases the cheese factory to Plymouth Cheese who make a variety of delicious flavors sold in their shop or in other specialty shops.
In Northampton, you can purchase this cheese at State Street Fruit Store, Deli, Wines & Spirits, Provisions, River Valley Co-op
Pictured below are the Smoked, Hunter and Hot Pepper flavors which are favorites among our volunteers.
