Garden bad guy: tomato hornworm.

This guy was munching on my cherry tomatoes with reckless abandon.

If you see one of these on your tomato plant, make it disappear asap, because it will munch your plant into oblivion in no time flat.

This week my farm pickup, affectionately known as “The Chick Magnet,” turned over to 100,000 miles. That’s pretty good considering I’ve had it for 10 years and it’s 31 years young.

So how did it get its name? Several years ago when I started selling at the Sunday Farmers' Market at College View in Lincoln, I had Riley drive my pickup up there. The other vendors were used to seeing him pull up in his fancy new pickup, so they all teased him about how he must have had a pretty tough year of farming to necessitate such a massive downgrade in vehicles.

The joke was on them, though. Multiple women have gone up to Riley specifically to talk to him about this pickup. Some remember having the same model for their first vehicle. Some remember going camping in it as a family. Some remember their first boyfriends having one just like it.

Moral of the story: if you’re looking to attract the ladies, get a really old, really rusty, really hideous two-toned brown pickup. Not only can you pick up chicks, it might also last you a good long time as a farm pickup.

When I announced the August CSA Sampler a couple of weeks ago, I had no idea what to expect. This was the first time I'd ever offered a four-week CSA experience, and I thought it would be a fun way for people who had been curious about CSA to give it a try.

I'm excited to share that all five sampler memberships have been claimed! 🎉

Thank you so much to everyone who shared the announcement, asked questions, and signed up. I can't wait to share the abundance of August with these new members!
