From Thayer Street to Camelot Drive, with a lot of miles and years in between, the Dogmatics are coming to IndieFerm on Saturday September 20th.

Back in 1985 or 86, a couple of friends and I went to the Rat in Boston to see a band we had heard was really good. We had also heard their tunes on WBCN a few times. And, they were great as we expected. The were the perfect blend of punk, rockabilly, and just straight ahead rock and roll energy.

At the end of their last song, they invited everyone to join them for an after hours party at their loft on Thayer Street. At the time, the area was a sketchy sh*thole, now it has been "revitalized" as the Ink Block.

Did they really just invite club full of drunken rock and roll people that they don't even know to their home? Us included? Who does that?

Of course, we went. It was 40 years ago and I might have had a few beers so the details are a little foggy now, but we had a great time partying with the Dogmatics and a whole lot of other people until the early hours of the morning. They even gave us beers. As it turns out, this was not an unusual thing, the Dogmatics had a lot of parties at that place, but I only went the one time.

We made it back home to the 'burbs and nursed a hangover for a few hours, but I never forgot the generosity and spirit of the Dogmatics that night even though I didn't see them again for decades. I was talking about Boston music with Tim Downie in the IndieFerm taproom early this year and the Dogmatics came up in the conversation. He says, I know them, I used to be their road manager. "Really? Could you get me in touch with them, I would like to see if they would play at IndieFerm?"

Long story short (kinda long actually), this Saturday is the day that it is gonna happen. After 40 years, I get to repay their generosity and throw a party featuring them at IndieFerm. It is an honor.
And they wanted to bring some friends with them, so now it is a 4-band-all-day-rock-and-roll spectacle. The music starts at 2:30 and will wrap up sometime around 7PM.

And, we will be featuring on tap, while it lasts, the Dogmatics Rocky Nook Kolsch. You see, the Dogs don't live in that loft anymore. They live in Kingston, Rocky Nook to be precise. It is an easy-drinking light (but not lite) beer in the German Kolsch style. We will have cans available to go also. That is the label below with a then and now montage of the band. 40 years is a long time, isn't it.

Today is the day of the drawing for the kayak raffle. Billington Sea Kayak donated two brand new kayaks to raffle off to benefit Black Feather Horse Rescue and Wildlands Trust. The proceeds will be split between them. The first winner will get to choose from the two boats, the second winner gets the other one. IndieFerm will add a third prize from our inventory.
Tickets will remain on sale all day today until Johnny Spampinato and the Value Leaders take a break between sets (approximately 5:00), then we will pull the winning tickets. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25.
Support these two great causes and you just might go home with a new kayak

We have some great food coming to the taproom the next few weeks.

This Saturday, Aug 16, is National Bratwurst Day so Bad Larry will be firing up the grill for bratwurst with all the fixins from 4 to 8 PM. We will probably add a couple of favorites like loaded tater tots to the menu also. And, the Shady Roosters will be playing live from 5 to 8 PM.

On Saturday, Aug 23, we will have Maggie's Pierogis cooking for you. I love pierogis but always wondered why they had to be so small. Maggie has taken care of that for me and for you by making extra large pierogis and they are the best. The New Frustrations and the Thee Associates will be playing live from 5 to 8 PM.

And, on Saturday, Aug 30, we are going to have our first ever Crawfish Boil. You can "suck the head and eat the tail" from 3 to 5 PM along with all the fixins. And Johnny B's Rocking Donuts will be serving fresh hot hand made beignets, New Orleans style. The meal is by reservation only and available at this link on eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/.../crawfish-boil-at-indieferm... . Beignets are a separate purchase. The Shady Roosters will be playing their rockabilly roots and more from 5 to 8 PM that day.

Billington Sea Kayak has donated two kayaks to be raffled off this summer and IndieFerm is proud to help.

All the proceeds will be split between Black Feather Horse Rescue ( https://www.blackfeatherhorserescue.org/ )and Wildlands Trust ( https://www.wildlandstrust.org/ ), two great organizations that really deserve your support.

The two kayaks are similar, they are both sea kayaks about 12 feet long, perfect for paddling on the ponds or harbors, also great for fishing. They are different brands and colors. So, the holder of the first ticket drawn will have their choice of the two, the second ticket drawn with get the other boat. And IndieFerm will add some prizes for the 3rd and 4th tickets drawn.

The drawing will be on September 6 just before Johnny Spampinato and the Value Leaders start playing in the beer garden at 5 PM. Tickets are available at IndieFerm taproom and they cost $10 for one, $25 for three.

Thanks to Doug at Billington Sea Kayak for his generosity once again!!

The homebrew shop will be closed Friday for the holiday so stock up Thursday. Also, it appears that the Warped Pours Festival has been cancelled. Bummer. We will have to come up with some kind of replacement for that before the summer is over, stay tuned.

Also:
Join us at the Marion Farmer's Market this afternoon (Tuesday) for beer, kombucha, and other ferments (like hot sauce and fire 'booch) from 2 to 6 PM. It is a great market with lots of vendors at a nice spot in Washburn Park. While you are in the area stop by Kate's Simple Eats ( https://www.facebook.com/katessimpleeats ) in downtown Marion for lunch (they also have our kombucha!!).

The taproom will open this afternoon at 4 PM featuring the return of Wedding Vows While Standing in a Shallow Grave New England IPA (feel free to shorten it to "Shallow Grave" when ordering or you might be there all evening, it's kind of a long name. The inspiration came from here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObinLPssZ4Y (skip ahead about 2 minutes if you are short on time or attention span).

Looking ahead to the holiday weekend, the taproom will open early at noon on Friday to help you kick off the July 4th celebrations. And we will be serving free hot dogs all day while they last. The homebrew shop will be closed on Friday.

On Saturday, the weather forecast so far is looking good so the Shady Roosters will be playing live in the beer garden from 5 to 8 PM. And, Meadow Street Grill be be doing the cooking for you starting at 3 PM.

On Sunday, we will be at the Kingston Farmers Market starting at 10am kombucha and more.

It's summertime! And that means it's time to re open the beer garden at IndieFerm. And it is time for some music too. And it's also time for Berliner Weisse and all the other summer beers.

Starting tomorrow (Thursday) we will have Berliner Weisse back on tap for pints and our almost-famous "Flight of the Berliners" (one sample with woodruff syrup, one with raspberry syrup, one with pickle juice, and one just plain). Normally, our mantra is "beer should taste like beer". But Berliner Weisse is typically served with syrups in it's home country of Germany, so we can make an exception in this case and add some flavorings.

The Shady Roosters will be clucking in the beer garden on Saturday from 5 to 8pm with their rockabilly and roots music. After a long winter roosting at the Spire Center, the boys are ready to get back outside under the big top every other week through the summer.

Meadow Street Grill will be doing the cooking starting at 3 pm Saturday. The menu includes Daryl's Mojo Chicken Sandwich, smoked sausages, and more. You know the food will be amazing.

The Ukele group will be meeting to play some songs from 3 to 5 on Saturday also. Uke 'em if you got 'em and join in.

Then, on Sunday from 2 to 4PM, DJ retro Ryan will be making his triumphant return to your earholes with his collection of rare 78 rpm records. They stopped making 78s in 1955 so you know everything he plays is at least 70 years old, some songs are quite a bit older than that.

And our first farmer's market of the season is this Sunday at Gray's Beach in Kingston from 10 to 2pm. We will have our kombucha for sale by the bottle. Stay tuned for updates on other farmers markets. This year we can sell beer and wine at some farmers markets for the first time, however, not at the Kingston market.

Join us as we kick off summer this weekend.
