These past few days on the Michaelmas weekend Two Biodynamic preparations were placed in the Earth here at Abbondanzafarms. On Friday a group of high school students assisted in harvesting nettles that we placed the Earth to be dug up and retrieved next September 27, and Sunday a small group of friends helped put amazing manure from West Haven Longhorns into horns. These were placed in the Earth and will be retrieved late spring.

Yellow. What a joyful uplifting vibration sings from the old Meyer lemon tree outside my bedroom window at the eastern corner of my house. What a nurturing gift bringing balance during these gray dark rain field days of winter.

Students from Independence High School here in Amador County come to help and learn every three weeks. This past visit we focused on making compost, lifting nettles out of the ground that have been buried one year (prep 504) and of course drinking nettle tea. The 152 tomato plants, magnificent basil and basil and pepper plants that flourished all summer were ground up and mixed into the compost to simmer all winter becoming beautiful soil by spring.

Today was a most magical day as students from Independence High School here in Amador County joined me for the morning. This is their first visit of the year and they will be coming every three weeks through next spring becoming a part of the farm. Aside from making pesto sauce from the abundant basil the students learned about the Biodynamic ritual of making the cow manure preparation (500) as they helped me stuff horns with the manure from very special cows living at Westhaven Farm. We buried the horns on the hillside and we will dig up the spring

Yesterday morning we picked 88 pounds of heirloom tomatoes and 38 pint containers of gorgeous sun gold and Valentine cherry tomatoes! Lovely farmers market last night. This morning back to making pesto from the abundant basil and sauce from some of the leftover tomatoes! Then doing a distillation of dried lavender bud. Lots going on at Abbondanza, grapes veggies and of course enjoying the love of the cats.
