Meet Bluto!

This little Berkshire x Idaho Pasture piglet will be our up and coming breeder boar when he gets older. As we move closer to phasing Popeye out, we wanted to find a small replacement that we can handle and familiarize with - this helps with the friendliness as they get older! We are hoping with this cross, we will continue to raise BIG butcher hogs efficiently while also keeping a great meat to fat ratio.

As you can see, it hasn’t taken him long to realize that he likes cookies and scratches. 😉

It was vet day!

Sweet little Hershey got his horns removed. I have a strict no horn policy around the farm. Not only for their own good, but for the safety of others. He took it like a champ and hasn’t shown any type of pain so far!

Deedee was confirmed bred by the vet today. I had done a blood test a few months back and got a strong positive, but to have the vet check again is just peace of mind. Especially when I need to plan for her dry off prior to calving. Vet commented that the calf was a little on the small side… I wonder if this little Hereford babe will be a heifer? 👀🥹
