For those who have had horrible fly problems like we have had this year we have finally found something that works. It is a little pricey but has worked like a charm around our house, chicken coop and pig pens. I'm telling you it has been night and day. It's crazy! We have been using them for about 2 months now. I didn't want to give them an A+++++ until I knew how well they worked. And no we are not getting any free products from them (I wish) lol. Just throwing out there what works. Thanks to the lady who told us about them. I can now sit on the deck again and enjoy it. Holler if you have any questions about them and I can try to help!

Axle has been rooting through his fence trying hard to get to his mom and siblings. He still has a small limp but is able to run and get out of the way so we decided to give him a chance with the big kids. When we put them together they are still so much bigger than him. We are soooo so proud of his recovery! And then there's CLUCK Norris just chillen watching over his hens up in a tree. They must be getting on his nerves.

Just a little update on Axle... although he is still a little broken he is SO much better. We put him back outside into his own pen. He is right next to his mommy and brothers and sisters pen so they can still nuzzle with each other and he can feel like part of the family some what. Rosita (his mom) is still very protective of him. He has a bad limp but I feel like this will be his norm now...it doesn't seem like it hurts him near as much as it did originally. For the first couple weeks he wasn't even able to walk at all. So excited to have been a part of helping him along the way. It was touch and go for a bit there. He is now almost caught up in size to all the other piglets! Who are also doing mighty fine also!

When we got home from camping this evening we never expected to become the new owners of this long haired Stud. Our other rooster met his demise several months back and we didn't even have plans on getting another. Of course we have added another 10 hens to our chicken coop so I guess getting a rooster was not such a bad idea. And he sure is a beauty. Wonder what we should name him?? Thoughts?

Everyone meet Axle Rose (yes spelled like a broken axle rather than THE AXL rose on purpose) . Axle is a little broken. He is the runt of the litter and was doing spectacular until a little over a week ago we noticed he wasn't able to walk much anymore. He would take a couple steps and then lay back down. We thought maybe he was just sore from getting castrated but when he kept getting work instead of better we knew we had to interject. We have had him inside pan feeding him for a week today. The first couple of days I was not so sure if he was gonna survive. This dude eats like a little "piglet" no pun intended. After lots of discussion and advice not to we did take him to the vet. The vet did xrays and couldn't find a break but it is super obvious where the pain is coming from. It is pretty certain that he got sat on by his almost 500 pound momma accidentally on hind legs. He has gotten 2 shots of pain medicine so far and although he doesn't walk at all he has started making Improvement, he lays on his belly more and does try to stand at times when he's eating. The vet placed him on kennel rest for 6 weeks and doesn't want him moving much in attempt to try to help the inflammation and get him up and moving again. We have high hopes for this little guy. I'm sorry call me crazy, I know we are raising pigs and nature happens and such but my nurse heart would not allow me to atleast give him a chance at living. He is so loved and we are sooooo thankful for our babysitter for the weekend. She did amazing with him and spoiled him literally rotten. Keep helping us to root this little guy on. GO AXLE GO!! Or... GROW AXLE GROW! No negative Nancy's please!! 🥰🥰🥰

Super proud of this girl! She did her "SAE" (supervised agricultural experience) over the 4 eggs that we incubated and hatched. She got the Silver Poultry Award for her work. We adore the fact we are able to provide her the ability to get these awards from experiences in our own back yard. Way to go Emercyn Lenae!

Piglets are doing wonderful. The first lesson learned as first time piglet owners....they need a safe place. Rosita laid around for about 12 hours after giving birth but by that evening she was hungry and thirsty. When she returned to the hut she sat down and sat on a baby! As you can see her 500 pounds is quite the match for these little tiny things. Thankfully their squeal made her get up really quick. At that point we made a quick decision to make them a safe place so they could get away from her when she goes to lay down. We had an old chicken coop that wasn't being used so we took the wire from around the bottom and screwed it to the inside of the hut. So far it has worked like a charm. So if you are a newbie at piglets like us this is a great tip!

This morning we became the proud grandparents of 9 little piglets! 4 boars and 5 gilts. All of them are doing well and Momma is being great so far!! She is not happy hearing them squeal for sure. There is a tiny runt who started out a little rough but we got him to latch and get some colostrum and he started waking up. We will watch him close. The last thing we want to do is have to take him from his mommy and bottle feed him. The kids did learn some hard lessons of homesteading seeing and hearing about the one stillborn and the 4 who didn't develop super early in the pregnancy. The rest of the crew look super healthy. HAPPY PIG DAY at Oakley Acres Farm. There has been tons of anxiety and anticipation leading up to this day.

We are on baby watch! I dont know how she could get much bigger. She's soooo uncomfortable she keeps moving from here to over there. Cameras are on her constantly. We aren't getting any milk yet so I guess it isn't quite time but she's got to be pretty close. Poor Rosita miserable first time pregnant momma! Was hoping they would come on my birthday today but more than likely not 😢
