❤️ Good nutrition plays a huge role in recovery!
Since Mom's procedure, I've had to get a little creative with her diet. She needs foods that require little to no chewing, but I still want to make sure she's getting plenty of calories, protein, and essential nutrients to help her body heal.
I've actually started using something I regularly use for my weight training: whey protein powder!
I've been making calorie-dense smoothies with protein powder, Greek yogurt, honey, juice, a pinch of salt, ice, and even a little ice cream. The goal is to pack in nutrition without overwhelming her digestive system.
Tonight, I roasted tomatoes, carrots, and onions with herbs and seasonings, then blended everything into a creamy homemade tomato soup. 🍅🥕 The vegetables provide important vitamins and antioxidants that support immune function and healing.
Protein helps repair tissue and maintain muscle, while adequate calories give the body energy to recover. It's not just about eating; it's about giving the body what it needs.
One thing weight training has taught me is that nutrition matters just as much during recovery as it does when building strength.
Mom's been through a lot, and while I can't fix everything, I can make sure she's well-fed, comfortable, and surrounded by love.
I have to say, that homemade soup turned out pretty darn good!
