I did my first full hive inspection of the year today and things are looking promising! Both of the hives that I went into the winter with made it, I found both queens (marked yellow) and both have started laying in preparation for the daffodils. They are bringing in pollen from the early blooming trees on the sunny and warm days. One hive is much larger than the other so in the next week or two I'll take a frame of brood from the stronger hive and give it to the weaker hive. This helps strengthen the weaker hive and reduces the chances of the stronger hive from swarming.
