Boy hasn’t been an exhausting weekend
It takes an incredible team to jump into a rescue filled with so many unknowns. 🤧
Seven horses. No current vetting. No recent Coggins. No vaccines. No dental care in years. Limited space. Endless work. And somehow, through exhaustion and chaos, the right people still showed up.
We could never fully express how grateful and blessed we are for our family, friends, and volunteers who continue to stand beside us no matter how hard it gets, how long the days are, or how overwhelming the situation may seem. This rescue took multiple trips, hours upon hours of hauling, organizing, separating, monitoring, and problem-solving.
While these horses were thankfully fed well and are in good weight overall, every one of them came with their own challenges and special needs:
🐴 One battling laminitis with significant cushioning
🐴 One completely blind
🐴 One suffering from anhidrosis
🐴 One considerably underweight
🐴 One extremely skittish with severely neglected feet and a halter left on so long it rubbed the skin raw beneath it
🐴 Several with awful hooves, thrush, arthritis, heavy coats, knotted manes, and mouths full of painful hooks and neglected teeth
No medications. No records. No clear history. No proper veterinary care in years.
And even after the long weekend, barely sleeping, and finally getting everyone safely home — the work still didn’t stop.
While the first group settled in to decompress and receive some much-needed love, our girls immediately got to work making the ponies more comfortable, untangling hair, checking feet, monitoring behavior, and babysitting the rest while we headed back for the second load. Meanwhile, the rescue itself was in an uproar 🤣 — paperwork everywhere, trying to determine ages, vaccine history, special needs, feeding plans, and making sure nobody colicked from the stress and transition.
Rescue is never easy.
It’s easier with one.
It’s certainly easier when you can just “throw something in your pocket and go.”
But this? This takes planning. Separation. Careful feeding regimens. Learning personalities. Learning medical needs. Learning trust.
It takes a village.
Tomorrow is another long day, but tonight our hearts are full knowing these horses are finally safe.
We typically fund our rescues ourselves, but if anyone feels led to help support the journey of this crew, donations would be deeply appreciated and will go directly toward veterinary care, farrier work, feed, dental care, medications, and rehabilitation.
Every donation is tax deductible, and every share, prayer, and kind word means more than you know.
