This was a post that I truly was not ever wanting to make, especially this soon.
Yesterday morning.. Kevin passed away. It was a very sudden event for us all. He was doing what he loved best, eating, then went and laid down in front of a tree..and was gone.
Speaking with our veterinarian about it, we all firmly believe that he had a cardiac event as it is incredibly common in KuneKune pigs, especially in ones as hefty as Kevin (he was well loved and it showed!).
Reading into some literature, KuneKune pigs are genetically predisposed to cardiac issues such as congenital heart defects, and being the runt of his litter, it fits his history.
All in all… There are no words to put together how deeply devastated we are here without our boy. It is very different on the farm knowing that a big chunk of it is gone.
At the end of the photo slides are his ink nose and hoof print. These prints were made by us, and we’re sharing them with everyone as we know he was loved so far and wide.
We love you always Kevin Bacon. Our sweet chunky boy.
