With the changing of the seasons, we're transitioning from draft ciders to our cool weather specialty: mulled wine. Our mulled wine is made in-house with Rocklands wine and local cider steeped with clove, star anise, cinnamon stick, and fresh orange. It's the perfect pairing with the cool days and colder evenings. Served hot and available on-site!

“One Last Syrah!”

In honor of this gorgeous fall day We’ve decided to do something a little different; We are excited to pull one of our all time fan favorites from the cellar and offer it by the glass and Bottle.

Who remembers this one? The 2018 Montevideo is 100% Syrah and 100% Delicious, with enough structured tannin to stand up to a lil chill in the air.

We’re only offering this vintage TODAY, and with limited quantities left, when we’re out we’re O U T!

So… see you in a few!?

Wow! We just wrapped up 10 days in the country of Georgia on a mission of alongside Evrim Dogu of and of . Our group spent most days traveling throughout the country visiting with and learning from chefs, winegrowers, historians, restauranteurs, leaders of food-based associations, and policy makers.

The deep rooted Georgian tradition of “Supra,” a ceremonial gathering with friends and family at a bountiful table of food and wine particularly hit home. To experience a custom rooted in thousands of years of history further confirmed how fortunate we are to grow food, make wine, and create a landscape for enjoying it.

Rocklands was honored to be a part of such a special program and we are looking forward to future partnership and bridge building opportunities. Special thanks to for many of these photos.

ICYMI: We had a BLAST at Common Good in the Barn on October 9th! We were thrilled to be able to raise & donate a portion of ticket sales to Manna Food Center- thank you to everyone who came! We can’t wait to do it again 😉

The benefit concert kicked off a food drive for Manna that will last through Thanksgiving, so please be sure to drop off donations in our Tasting Room!

Speaking of supporting wonderful local organizations like Manna. We got to thinking about what we could do to promote local business in our community… 👀 Look out for our next post for more info.

Update from Georgia: Today we had the distinct pleasure to pour our wines at the Tsinandali Jazz & Wine Festival in the eastern wine region of Kakheti. With over 1,500 guests in attendance, it was an amazing honor to share a piece of Rocklands alongside 40 traditional Georgian winegrowers. We even met a few Georgians at the festival who had visited Rocklands before! Huge thanks to for coordinating such a special experience and allowing us to be the first American winery invited to participate in this inspiring cultural exchange.

Update from Georgia: if you didn’t hear, Rocklands was invited to participate in a cultural exchange with the country of Georgia to celebrate 30 years of diplomacy between the US and Georgia. Rocklands Co-founder Shawn is traveling throughout the country over the next week visiting with winegrowers and chefs, learning about the oldest winemaking tradition in the world…8,000 years!

Today we had the opportunity to visit the lovely , a small organic family winery run by two sisters in west Georgia, Imereti region, village of Obcha. focuses on the qvervi winemaking (buried clay vessel) tradition with long skin macerations. We were honored to spend the afternoon with them (on their first day of harvest!) and even had a chance to share a few of our wines: 2021 Gather and the Georgian inspired 2020 skin macerated Sungold.

“The Wine Harvest”

Harvest at Rocklands is an important milestone marking the culmination of hard work, good timing, and a whole lot of patience. As we wrapped up the last of our estate harvest this past week, we captured some of the highlights of the early mornings and long days our dedicated team embraced, during one of the most critical moments of wine making.🍇 While the job is not over just yet, with the rest of the grapes from our partner vineyards still to come, we take a moment now to celebrate the fruits of our labor! No pun intended 😉

Some of you may recognize this as the house at Rocklands Farm Winery in Poolesville MD. I went out there yesterday to do some promo videos for our big show there on October 9th called “Common Good in The Barn”. It’ll be a full band ticketed show benefitting the Manna Food Center. It’s a great cause and a wonderful venue so grab your tickets now. Link in the comments below.

It's nothing but newness this weekend as we dive into the first releases of our 2021 barrel-aged reds, alongside a very limited peachy draft cider.  Learn all about them below!

(Bountiful Draft Cider)

Just six weeks ago, we harvested a few hundred pounds of estate-grown peaches, hand-pitted and cut, and then steeped them in our house cider to referment in cask.  And voila..."Bountiful" was born! You don't want to miss this one.

(2021 Hillside)

We're excited for this new release of the Hillside.  This wine is made up of a large percentage of Petit Verdot, giving it more color and tannin compared to the 2020 vintage. On the nose, there is a spicy quality from the Petit Verdot, offering hints of sage. On the palate, notes of violet really stand out, and the fruit transforms from more rich/stewed aromas to more fresh fruit presence on the palate.

Descriptors: black cherry, plum, licorice, blueberry, violet, sage, dried herbs

(2021 Rockridge *Cellar Club Exclusive*)

The grapes for Rockridge are grown by our good friend Matt Harsh at 78 Acres in Smithburg, Maryland. The wine is made from 100% Blaufränkisch from a single plot, grown on a rather steep and rocky slope at the foothills of the Appalachians. Also known as Lemberger, Blaufränkisch is a native grape to Austria, but has now found a home at many sites up and down the East Coast. The grape has quickly gained a reputation in vineyards of the Mid-Atlantic. In our first vintage release of Blaufränkisch, only a single 500L and 225L barrel were produced, resulting in only a coveted few 80 cases total production for 2021. This wine is exclusively available for Cellar Club members to purchase.

Descriptors: raspberry, cranberry, pomegranate, earthy, mineral, flint, herbal, spicy

Our first harvest is underway! 🍇

A few weeks ago we mentioned verasion, the process where the grapes start to change colors and start ripening. Well this week we’ve been gearing up to start our first harvest! While the reds will still hang on the vines for a few more weeks, our white grapes (specifically Chardonnay and Chardonel) have been going through verasion for several weeks now and are ready to be picked!

Check back in for more updates from the vineyard and winery! Cheers to a great 2022 harvest 🥂

One of the most visible signs of the upcoming harvest: veraison! In the weeks leading up to full ripeness, grape clusters will begin to change color (more visibly with reds, or course) berry by berry, a process called veraison 🤓

Pictured here are clusters of Tannat and Chardonel from the Rocklands Estate vineyard. Stay tuned as we start harvest later this month!
