A fortuitous happenstance: the tree that volunteered itself just outside my front window, now shading the sun from the house in the heat of the day in the summer, and allowing clear view of the grounds in winter. Nine years ago I almost pulled that little sprout, as it’s kind of an unruly “weed tree” in our area. Deciding to let it survive, I judiciously pruned and watered it as a sapling. Now I’m grateful every day for it. That is the definition of serendipity.
