Our cottonwood bud infused jojoba oil is in stock as well! There are just a few bottles left of this precious elixir so stock up while you can. The next batch will be produced from next year’s late winter buds and ready to bottle in spring 2027.

Restock today! Our fava beans now come with a recipe card for Creamy Fava Bean Dip and instructions on how to prep to hopefully inspire more people to try them. I’d say fava beans are just about the most underrated vegetable I can think of and the majority of people I come across have no idea how to use them.

Shuck em’, blanch em’, squeeze em’ out of their skins, and you have a tender, delicious, beautiful bean that is versatile and nutrient dense. Salads, pasta, soups, dips, pizza, spreads. Also just delicious enjoyed by themselves, our toddler’s favorite way to eat them.

Fava beans are also an incredible cover crop - these plants have been protecting our soil micro biome since last October! Pollinators go crazy for their early spring flowers and they create a huge amount of biomass which is great for composting.

I’m honored to have two pieces in the Farm to Table exhibit on display this summer at the Port Angeles Library . Come enjoy some incredible local art, say hi, and maybe learn to line dance at the opening reception tomorrow, June 12th, at 6:30!

“Life of Garlic” celebrates all our tiny co-workers working behind the scenes to create a thriving soil ecosystem, giving our plants the nutrients they need and building good soil structure.

The second piece, “Watermelon Radish” celebrates one of my favorite heirloom vegetable varieties, almost too beautiful to eat and who’s origins date back to ancient China.

Our little guy seeding the next generation of orca beans - probably his favorite thing we grow.

Felix has been enjoying his time in the garden more and more and, “Baby help Mama!!” has become a new addition to his many catchphrases which of course makes my heart swell. Totally unprompted, he’ll be playing, see me hammering in stakes or something, and run over to offer his assistance. I always try to figure out some way he can contribute in a safe and developmentally appropriate way when he offers. Always explaining in detail everything I’m doing and why and he really is so interested and invested in it.

He knows what plants he can forage and what he can’t and what has to wait and often states these rules as he goes about the garden. When walking by the strawberries he’ll say, “baby eat PiNK stawberries. NO GEEN” and shake his arm and head back and forth.

One of his favorite pastimes is grazing on baby Lacinato kale leaves and flowers like a baby goat until green juice drips down his chin. If I say I have to water the tomatoes in the greenhouse, he’ll yell, “BABY DO IT!!” The garden has really become a place where he can show off his confidence and knowledge and it makes me so happy to see. We’ve set up little hang out spots all around, a hammock under the cherry tree, a sugar snap pea hut with clover carpet... the next project is a pumpkin and cucumber arch.

We’ve come a long way from throwing a tantrum at the very mention of the garden because he doesn’t want to go down there. Picking every last green tomato and crying when moved away from them. Saying, “Baby go home now!” as soon as we get down to the garden. This mama is grateful to have an enthusiast farming buddy now, he’s the best.

Seeding the future 🌱

Our little guy has been excited to participate in farm activities lately and it has been so rewarding to see. It’s important to me that our farming lifestyle is always a postive experience for him. Never something that takes away from his enjoyment of life or that’s seen as a “chore.” I want it to be creative, fun, and exploratory, something that only enriches his life. It takes a lot of patience and a lot less work gets done when I involve him, but it’s so much more rewarding for both of us in the end. Plus, it’s so lovely having a farming buddy.

After dropping off the order at Lincoln Park Grocery, Felix and I picked up some goodies and headed over to Lincoln Park. We watched dogs frolicking in the sunshine, prop planes flying low overhead, and said hello to the ducks 🦆
