🐔⚾ Farm Stand Employee of the Week ⚾🐔

This week we’re celebrating Gage — especially as he graduates this weekend 🎓🥹

Head of Heavy Lifting & “I’ll Get to It Later” Department 😅

If something heavy needs to be lifted… Gage is your guy. Just don’t expect him to stick around long after 😅

✔️ Eats more eggs than he collects 🥚😂
✔️ Always seems to have somewhere to be—“the gym” or “just going to throw for a bit” ⚾
✔️ Knows exactly when chores are about to start—and times things accordingly 😏
✔️ Will absolutely help… as long as it doesn’t interfere with baseball, sleeping, or eating ⚾
✔️ May attempt to smuggle Luna to college 🐾😂

Let’s be honest… his brain is about 90% baseball at this point.

But truthfully, a lot of this farm stand wouldn’t be what it is without him. He’s the one who got us started collecting sap and somehow convinced us to dive into the whole maple syrup adventure 🍁😅

This summer he’ll be extra busy playing for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters ⚾ before heading off to college this fall. Around here, we’re soaking up whatever time we can get with him before this next chapter begins.

We’ll take the help when we can get it… and the rest of the time, we just keep up with his schedule 😅

⭐️ Availability: depends on practice schedule
⭐️ Work ethic: strong (when present 😏)
⭐️ Egg consumption: elite

He may be onto his next adventure soon, but he’ll always be part of this place. No matter where life takes him next, this place will always be home ❤️🐓

🐓 Farm Stand Employee of the Week 🐓
ELISE – Head of Organization & Pickle Quality Control 🥒

Elise may not be clocking in for animal chores anytime soon… 😅
(because let’s be honest—that’s a hard no)

BUT when it comes to the farm stand and the kitchen?
That’s where she shines ✨

✔️ Keeps the farm stand stocked and organized
✔️ Always ready to help with canning projects
✔️ Has strong opinions on how things should be arranged (and she’s usually right 😉)
✔️ Expert in pickle “quality control”…

…and by quality control, we mean she eats more pickles than she actually cans 😂🥒

She’s the behind-the-scenes reason the stand looks put together and the shelves stay full—even if the pickle inventory seems to mysteriously disappear…

And as of yesterday… she officially became a teenager 🥹❤️
(Not sure how that happened so fast… but here we are.)

⭐️ 10/10 organizer
⭐️ 12/10 pickle taste tester
⭐️ Animal chores rating: Not available 😆

💐 Farm Stand Employee of the Week (Mother’s Day Edition) 💐
Grandma Mary & Grandma Deb – The Women Behind It All 💛

This week’s spotlight goes to two very important individuals…

Grandma Mary:
✔️ Prime kid distractor (especially during certain farm activities 😅🐔)
✔️ Expert snack distributor—no one leaves hungry, ever
✔️ Now known for trips to Marshall’s or Five Below 🛍️

Back when the kids were little, she always knew to swoop in and take them on an adventure—keeping them happy, distracted, and far away from whatever chaos was happening at the farm.

These days, she’s still doing the same thing… just with snacks in hand and a shopping trip planned. And honestly? The kids still aren’t complaining 😂

Grandma Deb:
✔️ Taught me how to make pickles and sauce 🥒🍅
✔️ Passed down the recipes, the shortcuts, and the “this is how you actually do it” knowledge
✔️ Shows up with jars, lids, and egg cartons right when we need them
✔️ Always making sure we’re stocked and ready, even before we realize we’re not

So much of what we do here started with her—her recipes, her way of doing things, and the time she took to teach it all.

⭐️ Love: endless
⭐️ Support: constant
⭐️ Impact: everything 💛

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, grandmas, and women who keep things growing—on farms and far beyond 💐

“Why don’t all our eggs match? 🤔🥚”

Short answer… because chickens aren’t machines 😉

🥚 Young hens = smaller eggs
When hens first start laying, their eggs are usually smaller

🥚 Older hens = larger eggs
As they mature, egg size increases

🥚 Farm eggs aren’t sorted
At the store, eggs are graded and separated by size (medium, large, XL)
👉 Here… you get the real mix!

💡 Fun fact:
Smaller eggs often have a higher yolk-to-white ratio
(aka… extra rich 👀)

💛 Around here, we don’t sort — we just collect what the girls give us

👉 Different sizes, same great eggs

🐾 Farm Stand Employee of the Week 🐾
LUNA – Head of Security, Child Supervision & Ball Retrieval Department 💛

Luna has been part of this operation longer than most…
and she takes her job very seriously.

✔️ Original “nanny dog” when the kids were little 👶🐾
✔️ Still prefers to be outside wherever they are
✔️ Will keep an eye on everything… whether you asked her to or not
✔️ You will be tired of throwing the Chuck-It ball long before she is 🎾😂
✔️ If you can’t find her… give it a minute—she’s probably in the creek 💦 (and will return muddy and proud)

She may be getting up there in dog years…and maybe not quite as fast as she used to be…

…but don’t let that fool you.

She is still very much in charge.

✔️ Loves baseball just as much as her handler (Gage) ⚾
✔️ Just prefers to rip them to shreds instead 😅
✔️ No baseball left outside is safe
✔️ Loves the creek… hates baths—so you can imagine how that goes 😅🛁

⭐️ Loyalty: unmatched
⭐️ Ball drive: unlimited
⭐️ Authority level: still the boss 💪
⭐️ Bath cooperation: absolutely not 😂

Around here, Luna isn’t just part of the farm…she’s part of the reason it all works 🐾💛

To wash or not to wash our eggs? 🥚🤔

Short answer… usually, we don’t wash them.

Here’s why 👇

🥚 Natural Protection (“Bloom”)
Fresh eggs have a natural coating called the bloom that helps keep bacteria out and keeps the egg fresh longer.

🚫 Washing removes that bloom
Once an egg is washed, it loses that natural protection and needs to be refrigerated.

👉 That’s why:

Most of our eggs are unwashed
We only wash them if they’re really dirty

🏷️ We label what’s washed
So you always know exactly what you’re getting 💛

💡 What should YOU do at home?

🧺 Unwashed eggs → can be stored on the counter or in the fridge
🚿 Washed eggs → keep refrigerated

👉 Either way: wash right before you use them!

Struggling to peel fresh eggs? Try this 👇🥚

Fresh eggs can be a pain to peel… we get it 😅
So here’s what we do at home:

👉 Pressure cooker method

✔ Eggs in the cooker
✔ Set to rice setting (7 minutes)
✔ Quick release
✔ Ice bath right after

💡 Why it works:
The pressure helps separate the shell from the egg
👉 Way easier peeling — even with super fresh eggs!

💛 This is our go-to method… and it hasn’t failed us yet

🌟 Employee of the Week: Chardonnay (“Chardy”) 🌟

Up until this moment… she was nameless.
Just another member of the flock.

And then… she climbed a tree and helped herself to the wine bottle bird feeder like she pays the feed bill around here. 🍷🐔

Now, a hen with that level of confidence (and clearly refined taste) deserves a proper name.

So meet Chardonnay—“Chardy” for short.
Our resident connoisseur and self-appointed Coop Sommelier.

Job duties include:
✔️ Sampling only the finest offerings
✔️ Defying gravity (and expectations)
✔️ Reminding the rest of the flock to aim higher

We didn’t choose the fancy life… Chardy did.

Stop by the stand this week—no climbing required for your eggs 😉

🌳 Celebrating Arbor Day! 🌱

A quick bit of history—Arbor Day started in 1872 to encourage people to plant trees, and over 1 million trees were planted that very first year!

In Wisconsin, Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April🌳

The idea is still simple: plant a tree, care for it, and help the land thrive 💛

🌱 When planting, consider choosing native Wisconsin trees. They’re better adapted to our climate, support local wildlife, and help strengthen local ecosystems. Some examples include:

🌳 Sugar maple
🌳 White oak
🌳 Red oak
🌳 Paper birch
🌳 Eastern white pine
🌳 Black cherry

🌳 Plant a tree (or plan for one!)
🌿 Care for the trees you already have
🐝 Remember trees support birds, pollinators, and wildlife
🍁 Appreciate all they give us—from shade to maple syrup

Throw back to when we planted over 100 trees around the fields! For windbreaks and for privacy
