The tradition continues even as things around us change.

We picked out our Christmas tree at The Wreath Works tree farm in Port Orchard, WA as Jeremy has since he was a kid, but this year was marked with a bit of sadness. Every year I look forward to seeing my friend Phil (owner) greet me with a big hug & smile & that didn’t happen this year. He truly was the kindest soul Phil recently passed away in October joining his sweet wife, Fran in heaven.

This is the tree we picked out to grace our home (we also buy rolls of pine/cedar garland from them). In a week we’ll go back to cut it. We’ll enjoy hot cocoa & festive Christmas music as we decorate it & I’ll be grateful to have had Phil & Fran part of our precious Christmas memories.

The Key Peninsula Farm Tour is this weekend! Saturday and Sundat 10-4. This is definitely one of my favorite events on the KP each year. Get the full schedule of events/map at this website. There are more 'farms' on the tour on Saturday but Sunday is the Apple Squeeze. Both days are great!

Another anniversary of 9/11 is here. Can it really have been 23 years ago that the world as we knew it in the U.S. turned upside down? Every year I’m well aware of this anniversary the days leading up to it. I start reliving bits of images & emotions that come with this day. It may sound a bit “dramatic” to some to hear me say that, but in my world, I live with the direct effects of 9/11 daily. Today, I honor of counterparts who were brave enough to sacrifice their lives for others.

As a member the EMS/Fire community & as a FA, my heart will always feel a deep sadness at what was loss, but I will also feel great pride at what was given. I choose to remember this day as a day that humanity showed the world it’s very best in the mist of its very worst. Today I remember the 343 NYFD, 60 Port Authority & NYPD; My 8 private EMT counterparts, my Flight attendant counterparts & pilots & their passengers on AA 11, AA 77, UA 175, UA 93 & the countless of unsung heroes among the 2,977 who died that day & the over 1000 who have since died of illnesses related to that day helping with searches for victims. They sacrificed themselves to help people they had never met. I choose to remember those heroes by honoring this day as a day that good triumphed over evil - a day when love, compassion & empathy triumphed over the ugliness of hate. And I can’t think of any better way to honor those heroes than to live today & everyday with compassion for my fellow human beings.
