❄️🐴 It’s getting cold, and if you visit us, you’ll see our horses aren’t wearing blankets… or you’ll see some are and some are... Why is that?🐴❄️

We’ve had a lot of people ask this as the temperatures drop, so here’s a quick explanation of why our horses stay cozy without blankets — and why this is what works for our herd. 💛
(And of course, we fully respect everyone’s personal choices when it comes to blanketing their own horses!)

🌬️ Why We Don’t Blanket Our Horses

Horses are incredibly well-designed to handle cold weather naturally. Here’s how:

🐎 Their winter coat is built for warmth
Horses grow a thick, fluffy coat that traps warm air close to their bodies. That hair naturally “puffs up” like insulation — something a blanket can actually flatten, making it harder for them to stay warm.

🐎 They regulate temperature better without a blanket
Blankets can sometimes cause horses to overheat, sweat, and then get chilled. Without a blanket, their bodies adjust more evenly to the outside temps.

🐎 Movement keeps them warm
Our horses have space to roam, roll, run, and stay active — which creates natural body heat and keeps circulation strong.

🐎 They stay drier
A horse’s winter coat is designed to shed water and snow. A wet blanket can actually trap moisture and make them colder.

🐎 They’re monitored closely
We check everyone daily (usually multiple times a day!). Body condition, coat condition, weather changes — we stay on top of all of it to make sure each animal is comfortable and healthy.

🧡 So Why Are Some of Our Horses Blanketed?

Because every horse is different — and some need extra support.
A few of our horses may be:
• seniors
• rescues still gaining weight
• clipped
• more sensitive to the cold
• managing medical conditions

Those horses benefit from the added warmth and protection a blanket provides.

🧡 What Works for Us

Every farm, every climate, and every horse is different. Some horses need blankets, and some do better without — and that’s totally okay! We respect everyone’s choices.

For our herd, natural coats + movement + good nutrition + daily monitoring works for most, while a few get blankets because that’s what they need.
Warm, happy, healthy horses all winter long. ❄️🐴✨

If you ever have questions, we love sharing what we do and why!

🚫 No Unscheduled Visits, Please 🚫

We love sharing our horses with our community, but for everyone’s safety — both human and animal — we cannot allow unannounced visitors on our property. Our farm is private property!

If you’d like to interact with and pet the horses, please send us a message and we can try and schedule a time. This ensures we can be there to supervise, answer questions, and make sure our animals stay safe and comfortable.

Please do not let yourself down to see them — even if you’ve visited before. Thank you for respecting our boundaries and helping us keep our herd healthy and happy.
