Cone Heads 8020

Cone Heads 8020 Motto: Surprisingly Good! Cone Heads 8020 is a family friendly, relaxed and comfortable restaurant located right before the entrace to T.H. Stone Memorial St.

Joseph Peninsula State Park on gorgeous 30E (Cape San Blas, FL). Cone Heads 8020 is a restaurant that is uniquely located between the gorgeous Gulf of Mexico and the stunning St. Joseph’s Bay on Cape San Blas, Florida. Cone Heads 8020’s transformation has been progressive. Originally, Cone Heads 8020 was known as Captain Jacks. Captain Jacks was a ice cream parlor and a beach shop. After another f

amily purchased Captain Jacks, the family renamed the business Cone Heads 8020. “Cone Heads” was coined as a catchy name for a business that served thousands of ice cream cones a year. The “8020” is derived from the address of the business. While ice cream has always been a staple of Cone Heads 8020, it also carried a variety of the traditional beach apparel and souvenirs. However, Cone Heads 8020’s venture into the restaurant industry began under humble beginnings with its initial food being hot dogs on a rotisserie and using a electric skillet for cooking hamburgers for local workers, to, in time, becoming a full fledged established restaurant hosting customers from all over the world. Unfortunately, over the decades, Cone Heads 8020 has seen several restaurants come and go on Cape San Blas. However, the silver lining to this, is that this testifies to Cone Heads 8020’s stability and customer’s loyalty and overall satisfaction. Cone Heads 8020 appreciates all who have supported us all these many years and we look forward to contributing in some small way to the enjoyment people experience while on vacation on Cape San Blas.

A Vision for Gulf County 🐢

What if one day Gulf County became home to a world-class sea turtle educational and activity center?

With Gulf County boasting the highest number of loggerhead sea turtle nests of any county in Northwest Florida, it seems only natural that one day we could have a facility dedicated to these incredible animals.

Imagine a destination where residents and visitors could:

• Enjoy interactive exhibits and aquariums showcasing local marine life
• View a sea turtle rehabilitation hospital
• Learn from marine biologists
• Experience guided sea turtle nesting programs
• Take guided nature walks and beach ecology tours
• Attend lectures and community events
• Observe research and rehabilitation efforts firsthand

Goals. 😎

June 8, 2026: Project Update for the 2025/26 St. Joseph Peninsula Coastal Structures & Beach Nourishment Project

From MRD Associates, Inc.

The dune vegetation plantings consisting of Sea Oats, Panic Grass, and Gulf Bluestem has finished along the new dune constructed within the project limits. The submerged breakwater contractor continues to stage armor stone and marine mattresses adjacent to the submerged breakwater locations and throughout the beach at each submerged breakwater location. Construction of the submerged breakwaters is currently concentrated at the southern end of the project limits at the southernmost breakwater. Rock filled marine mattresses which will serve as the foundation for the submerged breakwaters are currently being installed in SB-8 (southernmost breakwater.) The contractor is still assessing which submerged breakwater will be constructed next. Additional updates will be provided once that decision has been made.

🐢 Commemorating 10 Years of Sea Turtle Nest Adoptions 2016–2026 🐢

Ten years ago—soon after the sea turtle nest adoption program began for St. Joseph Peninsula—Cone Heads 8020 adopted its first sea turtle nest on 30E Cape San Blas, FL.

The first two photos are the sea turtle nest and certificate from 2016 and the third photo was taken today in Mexico Beach, FL—2016 to 2026.

Today, we are proud to celebrate a decade of adopting sea turtle nests in Gulf County, Mexico Beach, and along the Forgotten Coast.

From the beaches of St. Joseph Peninsula—home to the highest density sea turtle nesting beach in the Florida Panhandle—to the shores of Indian Pass, St. Joe Beach, Mexico Beach and other parts of the Forgotten Coast, we’ve had the privilege of supporting these incredible animals and the habitats they depend on.

Over the past decade, thousands of hatchlings have emerged from nests along our coastline and made their journey to the Gulf. Most will never return, but a few will survive the challenges of the open Gulf and Ocean.

Somewhere out there, one of the many hatchlings from a nest we adopted over these 10 years may still be swimming. Perhaps, she may one day return to these very same beaches to lay her own nest.

Thank you to the local dedicated volunteers and patrol members who work tirelessly each season to assist sea turtles along our coast.

Here’s to 10 years of supporting these endangered or threatened creatures—and to the generations of hatchlings still to come. 💙🐢🌊
