We are a small organic 5 acre farm in Port Townsend, we grow most of our own food and sell some of the surplus meat, eggs, veggies, Honey & Bees we grow. with approximately 1200 annual heat units, our frost dates are about April 10th to October 20th. Location
Our Native soil is terrible, it is compacted Glacial Till and dries out quickly to reinforced concrete, Our garden soil is composed of Nativ
e soil and imported local soils from the Chimacum Valley. We do not grow hay or small grains due to the above soil issues.Water logging is not much of a problem we can Till the land at almost anytime of the year unless it is frozen. the farm is approximately 35% Native trees, our garden gets about 8 hrs of sun. We raise Goats, Pigs, Chickens for Meat and Eggs, Ducks, Geese & Turkeys along with other odd fowls. Fruit:
We have a 1/2 acre of mixed Fruit Trees & Berries with 20 different apple trees varieties including Cider and Crab apples, 5 Pear, 3 Peach 2 apricot and 7 plum varieties. 50 blueberry plants of 5 different varieties, 5 grape varieties, Cherries, several different Gooseberry, Red and Black Currents, Josta berries, Paw Paws, hops, figs, kiwis, filberts, Quince and several other odd trees ( Not all currently producing)
Garden:
we have a large home garden of about 5,000 square feet. we grow only open pollinated varieties and try to save as much seed a possible, we use Seed Savers Exchange and Baker Creek Heirlooms mainly for our seed stock. Bees:
We have Numerous bee hives our target is 10 hives, we use only local bred queens either reared here on the farm or purchased form other local breeders. Shop:
We have a small shop fully stocked with woodworking, welding and blacksmiths tools with ability to build just about anything we need to build or repair on the farm.
