An historic show jumper - this one was a Hackney, a breed much better known for its use as a driving pony. But if given the chance, they can do much more.

Ynot was ridden by Vivien Machin Goodall - if you've read Horses of the World by Daphne Machin Goodall, yes, Vivien was her sister. Vivien later married George Boon, so you may know her better as Vivien Boon.

Ynot was a real all rounder - a Norfolk hackney, born in 1921, he competed in handy hunter competitions, hunter trials and gymkhana events, as well of course as jumping.

He was bought at the age of nine in 1930, and in his very best year as a competitor, won 53 firsts, 30 seconds and 31 thirds.

He really could jump too: he cleared 6 foot 2 in 1931 in the High Jump at Abingdon.

The picture shows him in yet another aspect of his career: trick riding. During the war years, he and Vivien gave displays to raise money for the Red Cross.

Ynot lived until the age of 25, dying in 1946. Like Little Jim and If Not, who I featured in earlier posts, he died in retirement, still with his owners.

ANNOUNCING - WEE FOLKS IS COMING TO HERON HILL !!!

Wee Folk Forest at Heron Hill Equine is a "rain or shine" outdoor preschool/kindergarten in Port Townsend, WA, for children ages
2 1/2 to 6.

We are inspired by the Waldkindergartens and Forest Schools of Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Finland, where children spend the early years of their education in entirely outdoor settings.
There are enormous benefits for children who attend forest kindergartens, ranging from social-emotional and sensory-motor health, to a richly developed sense of place, and active imaginations.
When observed, these children convey an empowerment uncommon for their age, and a contentment that will make anyone "run for the forest".
Flexible scheduling, mornings, afternoons, full days--choose the schedule that works best for your family.

1 week camp sessions run from July 15-August 28

Upcoming Event at Heron Hill Equine:
Dear Washington Friends of Wee Folk Forest,
Please join us for an old-fashioned barn raising experience at Wee Folk Forest at Heron Hill Equine in Port Townsend on

Sunday, June 28th from 2-4:30pm.

While our kids run around and play, we'll be getting our magical forest ready for the children to play all summer long--clearing underbrush, putting together our stump circle, hanging swings and our beloved climbing rope, setting up our digging zone and our hammock resting area. Many hands make light work AND this is hands down the best community building event we've got. Come meet your new best friend! Please forward this information to anyone you think might be interested.

Our director, Elizabeth Baker and lead teacher, Rose Martin, will be there. As will the folks from Heron Hill. Families enrolled, and those considering enrollment, are encouraged to participate.

RSVP is needed, please to [email protected]; or to [email protected].
Be sure to provide your contact information. Thank you.

Please bring snacks, drinks, and a picnic blanket!
And we are looking for folks to bring the following items:
Shovels
Rakes
Work gloves
Weedwhackers
Chainsaws
Hopes and Dreams
Love
Jelly Beans
