The "Yield Drag" illusion. 🧐🌾

If you walked past this test plot, you'd think the taller corn is the clear winner. But in farming, the early race doesn't always determine the final yield.

The shorter corn is dealing with a heavy mat of early-planted fall rye residue. It's colder and hungrier right now. But that exact same "problem" residue could become a lifesaver if July and August turn into a drought.

Which strip would you bet your paycheck on? 💵👇

Do not miss out on this perfect opportunity to connect with other farmers!

Are you making the most of your nitrogen investment?

The Pre-Sidedress Nitrate Test (PSNT) is a valuable tool for Wisconsin corn growers looking to optimize nitrogen management. Conducted when corn is 6–12 inches tall, the PSNT measures the amount of nitrate already available in the soil, helping determine whether additional nitrogen is needed.

Benefits of the PSNT include:
✅ Improved nitrogen use efficiency
✅ Potential fertilizer cost savings
✅ Reduced risk of nitrate loss to groundwater and surface water
✅ Better-informed nutrient management decisions

Are you considering taking PSNT tests on your farm this year?
