Today marks the end of one era and a new beginning for Highland Prairie Farms. Six years ago we made the jump from raising a handful of Highlands at our small property to purchasing a fold and renting a farm in Fall River, WI. Since then, we grew our fold to over 50 head. Along the way we have learned a lot about grazing, handling, breeding, calving, and marketing Highlands. Weāve had exciting successes and suffered heartbreaking losses. When an opportunity to rent a property closer to home came available we decided to take it. This has required developing additional infrastructure at the new location including significant water and electrical improvements. If youāve ever moved homes, try moving an entire herd of cattle and hundreds of big squares of hayā¦in winter. Mike has worked tirelessly to ready the property and today the first cattle arrived at the new farm. Additional infrastructure work will be needed in the spring but for now our cows are comfy exploring their new location. Mike will now work on moving the rest of the herd from their temporary holding at our place. We are excited to set up this new farm and have our cattle closer. We are forever grateful to John & Dorothy Priske (Fountain Prairie Farms) for their confidence in us six years ago and their support over these years.
