Behind the scenes of us evaluating the peach crop last week 🍑🌸
We’ve had some questions about if any of our products are available before we open in June and there is a small selection of our products available through the Tulsa Farmers’ Market To-Go website. More info on that in the comments.

We have been touched by everyone’s thoughts and prayers about the peach crop, so we want to give you all an update🍑🚨

It has been nine days since the freeze, and we are grateful to share that our trees held up well. We are expecting a decent crop this year, though the season may start a little slower than usual.

Our peaches did not make it through the freeze by luck alone. During those cold nights, we spent hours carefully monitoring temperatures using thermometers placed throughout the orchard including our local Mesonet station. We even used wind machines and flew helicopters over the trees to help push warmer air down and protect them from the cold.

Farming is not always easy, but we are thankful for the season ahead and for all of your support!

Update from the orchard:
It’s just after 7am, and we’ve had two helicopters along with two wind machines running since around 11pm. Based on our temperature readings, it looks like we were able to keep the peaches just warm enough through the night.

Oklahoma weather has treated us well this past week, and our peach trees are showing off with beautiful blooms. However, the weather over the next two nights may cause serious damage to the peach crop.

Blooms and even tiny peaches can be vulnerable if cold weather returns, and there is the potential for freezing temperatures headed toward Porter. Over the past few years, we have experienced late freezes in March and April, and thankfully our peach trees have still managed to produce the peaches you enjoy each summer.

If you would like to keep an eye on the exact temperatures in our area, you can follow the Porter station on the Oklahoma Mesonet website.

🌸 Soft Launch of Spring at Livesay Orchards 🌸

After a few rainy days here at the orchard, our peach trees are starting to show one of the first signs that spring is on the way. Several flowers have already opened across the orchard, bringing soft shades of pink to the trees, but we have not reached peak bloom just yet.

While the rain might keep us a little muddy, it is a welcome part of the growing season. Moisture like this helps support the trees as they wake up from winter and begin the important process of setting fruit. Each one of these blossoms has the potential to become a peach later this summer.

It is still early in the season, but moments like this remind us that another peach crop is on the way. Spring is slowly arriving at Livesay Orchards, and the orchard is starting to come back to life. 🌸🍑

The work never really stops on the farm and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

For the past four weeks, we’ve been out in the orchard pruning our peach trees. If you’ve never seen it done, it might look like we’re cutting a lot off but there’s a big reason behind it!

Pruning is one of the most important steps in growing great peaches. By trimming back certain branches, we allow more sunlight and fresh air to move through the tree. More sunshine means better peach color, bigger fruit, and sweeter flavor. It also encourages healthy growth, keeps our trees at a manageable height, and even helps reduce how much fruit we have to thin in the spring.

So while it may look like we’re taking away, we’re really setting the stage for this summer’s peach crop. Every snip now helps bring you the juicy peaches you love!

The year was 2016…

We heard 2026 is the new 2016 and we couldn’t help but take a short trip down memory lane. Back in 2016, life on the farm felt a little simpler. Different faces welcomed you at the register, we were cash and checks only, and we were proudly celebrating 50 years of serving our community.

Now, ten years later, so much has grown. We accept cards, the pumpkin patch has expanded to include sunflowers and a corn maze, we’ve expanded our apple orchard, and this summer we’ll celebrate 60 years of Livesay Orchards.

Some things have changed, but what hasn’t is our heart for this farm. Thank you for growing with us and we look forward to celebrating our 60th year with everyone! ❤️
