Moved our cherry tomato plants today to a much better spot. They’ve been growing at the end of our side porch voluntarily — right where you see all the algae collecting— for the last couple of years, and we’ve just let them do their thing. But since they’re indeterminate vines and love to take over, it was definitely time for a relocation. This new setup should keep them healthy and keep them from trying to claim the house as their own! 🍅🏡

While we were at it, we also added a French drain and some landscaping rock to clean up the area and help with drainage. Feels good to have everything looking tidier and set up for healthier growth all around!

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times—Pattons Honey is hands down the sweetest, best-tasting local honey around these parts.

But hey, don’t just take our word for it… swing by Jackson Rd and grab a jar for yourself. One taste and you’ll understand why we keep talking about it. This is Portland’s finest honey—smooth, rich, and straight from local hives.

Go ahead and see what all the buzz is about. 🐝🍯

So that original “perfect spot” I spent all day digging out? Yeah… Stormie didn’t approve of that spot 😆 so this past Sunday turned into round two—but this time we were better prepared. We got the chicken coop successfully moved to its officially approved location, which means we can finally shift gears into repairs and getting everything ready for a new flock.

It’s one step closer to getting back to what really matters—collecting our own farm-fresh eggs again and getting the rhythm of the little farm life back in motion. Funny how a “small change of plans” turns into a full-day project, but honestly, that’s just life out here.

Now the real work begins… and hopefully this spot passes final inspection. 🤞🐓

Cups and Trays

TSC had an amazing sale on Bonnie plants over the weekend, and judging by how many people I know who stocked up, I’d say they sold a TON of plants! 🌱

With gardening season in full swing, I’d like to ask a small favor from anyone who purchased plants — whether from Tractor Supply or anywhere else. If you don’t mind, please save your plastic plant cups and trays instead of throwing them away.

We’d love to recycle and reuse them rather than see them end up in the trash. ♻️

If you dont mind saving them please just reach out and we’ll gladly arrange to pick them up. Thank you!!

The wind was definitely not on our side today, but we finally got some more work done on the greenhouse 🌬️🌱

Between busy schedules and waiting for the right help, we just hadn’t had the time or the weather… but today we made it happen. Even with the high winds trying their best to slow us down, we stuck with it and made progress. Nothing like a little hard work on the weekend !! 💪🌿

Had a little bit of help show up this morning to start the greenhouse install before Mother Nature moved in and put a damper on the day. Thanks to my wife Stormie Dillard my Dad,my brother Richard and my nephews Cameron and Hunter for showing up to help.
It’s takes a lot of help getting started growing some times but the results will be rewarding.

The wife and I slipped out of town this weekend to spend some time with family, but the work didn’t stop back at our little homestead.

While we were away, my “paw paw in-laws” jumped in and raked the grass off, leveling the areas where we’re planning raised beds, a greenhouse, and winding walking paths through our own little piece of paradise.

It’s a blessing to have family who believes in the dream just as much as we do. We’re beyond thankful for the helping hands that keep this vision moving forward!

Who do you all have help with your never ending chores on little farms?

Check out this old ATLAS E-Z SEAL jar we found while cleaning out an old shed.

Atlas E-Z Seal jars are vintage glass canning jars originally made by the Hazel-Atlas Glass Company (early 1900s–mid-1900s). They’re recognizable by the “ATLAS E-Z SEAL” embossing on the front and a wire-bail closure with a glass lid, instead of the two-piece screw lid used on modern mason jars. Utilizing the wire-bail the lid is held down by a metal wire that flips over and clamps the lid in place — a classic “lightning jar” design that was easier to seal and open.

Portland City Limits Farm is ready to get back into chickens.

Not only do we miss the enjoyment that raising a back yard flock brings to our family, we miss those nice round flavorsome home grown eggs.

The question we keep asking our selves and have decided to ask our friends and followers on Facebook is ….What kind of chickens do we want?

Don’t get me wrong, we loved our Americanas
and they produced lots of nice meals but tis time we want to see what you guys suggest we raise!

Our main concern of course is a healthy flock followed by personality and last but not least, egg producers!!

Let us know in the comments your suggestion and why please!!
