Our Italian Rule-Breakers & Rarities 4-Pack, is a collection of unique bottlings that quietly challenge traditional winemaking norms.

Begin with the ColleStefano Spumante, a remarkable rarity given how infrequently the pristine Verdicchio grape is ever transformed into a traditional-method sparkling wine. Follow it with the Ca’ Lojera Lugana, an elegant white centered around Turbiana, a highly localized and obscure grape rarely found outside its small lakeside enclave.

The exploration shifts gears with La Scala’s Rosato, an unexpected pink wine crafted from Calabria’s ancient Gaglioppo grape, which vintners almost exclusively reserve for heavy, highly tannic, dry reds. The lineup comes full circle with Angelo Negro’s Brachetto Rosso, a dry, chillable red that intentionally upends expectations for a grape nearly always destined for sweet, fizzy dessert sparklers.

We spend a lot of time in our backyards this time of year and we assembled our pack with this in mind. From crisp, mineral whites and sparkling rosés for warm days, to reds that go with the first grill marks of the season or more rainy days, there is something here for whatever May throws our way.

When we think of the elements that go into a premium wine, vine age is a huge factor. To personalize this, it’s analogous to an older person who speaks with more wisdom due to their long lived experience - in other words, a higher quality output. We’re accustomed to these high-end bottles being comprised of these lower yielding, older vines that have lots to say. And then there are the Pipeño style wines of Chile, who’s price points make no sense.

Lomas de Llahuén is a boutique family project led by third-generation winemaker Gustavo Riffo in the dry, coastal area of Portezuelo within Chile’s historic Itata Valley. The estate is deeply dedicated to preserving the country’s viticultural heritage, cultivating ancient, own-rooted vines that range up to 200 years old! Farming is done without irrigation on granitic clay soils,. By focusing on low-intervention winemaking and native yeast fermentations, the winery crafts honest, highly drinkable “Pipeño” style wines that beautifully express the soul of the rural countryside.

Pipeño is a traditional, rustic winemaking style from Chile that dates back to the late 16th century. Historically considered a simple “peasant wine” made by rural farmers for everyday local consumption, it has recently been embraced by the international natural wine community for its honesty and high drinkability.

These fresh and vibrant bottles are a lovely way to welcome the forthcoming sunny days of Spring. This is the best introduction to Chile’s Pipeño wines from its best producer. The intent of these old vines is precision over complexity, which they have overacheived in these 2024 expressions. And, that’s not a typo, they both are 1 Liter format!

Belle Pente has been a part of the wine programs at Le Pigeon, Canard(s), Little Bird, and Flor from the get go. The winery was established in 1994 by Brian and Jill O’Donnell on a historic 1840s farmstead. The farming is organic with Biodynamic touches. Their winemaking philosophy centers on a 3-level gravity-flow system designed to minimize fruit manipulation and preserve the natural elegance of the estate’s grapes.

This is our longest standing relationship with a winery and we are proud and thankful for it. On April 6th, Canard Beaverton hosted a wine dinner with Brian and Jill and selected these six wines to show the breadth of this great Oregon winery. The wines showed beautifully and we wanted to share them more broadly. So we are offering them through Flor as a 6 pack that includes wines from them you cannot find anywhere else.

Belle Pente is not about marketing and flash. It is about quality and complexity and letting the wines speak for themselves, and that they do.

These pack would be great to build a dinner around, but also a fun way to buy 6 wines at a great price, that each overdelivers. -Andy

Most appropriately named sipper pack ever!

As most of you are well aware, these sipper packs are always curated with the seasons in mind. So how do we pair wines to this unpredictable time of year? The answer: we mix in as much diversity as possible. Be prepared for everything that April throws your way with this collection ranging from a bright and sunny Rosé to a warming Italian red. We hope you enjoy the sun, the rain, and more importantly, these wines.
