What do these bunches of Purslane and Sungold cherry tomatoes have in common (besides being grown locally by small producers)?

They’re both *juicy*

The Sungolds should come as no surprise….but the Purslane…!!!

Eaters not yet familiar with this succulent plant will be thrilled by its thick leaves and stems that burst with flavor and moisture content. It’s clean, fresh, slightly sweet and just a little bit sour flavor pairs well with other seasonal favorite like Persian cucumbers and cherry tomatoes in salads or pile it on top of pizza. Originally found in India and Persia, you may also look to these regions for recipe inspiration!

Don’t tell this kiddos, but this plant (considered by many to be a w**d!) is nutrition-packed!

The start of local cane berry season always brings with it the first hint of all the fun to come: river days, picnics in the park and those long awaited Portland evenings with the last rays of sun dipping below the west hills at nearly 10 o’clock.

A deep delicious sigh, for summer is practically here!

The Hood strawberries are here and what a way to kick off this sunny week! A big thanks to for bringing us flats and flats and flats!

What’s up with the Hood hype!?

This variety, cultivated at and released in 1965, is candy sweet, deep dark red and super juicy.

The season is so short (just 2-3 weeks) and when you get your hands on them, their delicate texture demands you eat them right away.

In short, they’re the region’s gold standard strawberry— for good reason 🥇

🍓Local Strawberry Report 🍓

If you made it down on the early side to one of the farmers markets in the area today you probably noticed✨a lot✨more strawberries than last week!

A good sign there will soon be enough for us to have plenty at Rubinette.

For now, we have some precious pints this weekend and we patiently wait to get the call that it’s go-time for the first big delivery of local strawberries.

Hot tips:
🍓 If you happen to visit us when the local strawberries have sold out, we have some very tasty hydroponic strawberries from Washington (and they’re reeeeally delicious)
