Sometimes I have the hardest time having faith in myself.
The “other” side of my bakery. Custom cookie decoration. While I give away bread and prayers, these paid orders help my family.
I often undercharge, spend countless hours baking and decorating, and fret over every detail. However, I do it while I’m also working the most important job of being mom.

I was stressing over an order, it wasn’t up to the standards I build in my head. I naturally start thinking worst case scenario. The customer will hate it. I’m terrible at this. Why do I bother.

My husband comes along to save the day but simply saying “if they knew how to do what you do, they would have done it themselves. They didn’t. It’s better than what they could have done”

Instantly I felt better. I am my own worst critic. I may not be as skilled as others who are much further along in their bakery journey but I am better than I once was. I get better with each cookie.

Sometimes that’s how life works. You have to have faith in yourself, in your journey, in your growth. It’s all a part of the process. No one wakes up an expert. All you need is a crumb of faith, a little time, and it will happen.
Putting my bakery in God’s hands was the best decision I ever made. I know he will see it through.

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again. Sourdough starter and faith are one and the same. You can have barely enough to scrape the jar clean & it’s still enough for God to work with. Feed with you have with flour and water, or prayer and scripture then let him handle the rest. Without realizing, often when you aren’t watching. You’ll come back to it multiplied and stronger than before. Nothing is impossible to the lord. Rest your worries and troubles into him and watch him move mountains for you. Happy new year from my bakery to you!

Merry Christmas from A Crumb of Faith!

“And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn" Luke 2:7

"And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do" Luke 23:33-34

From the manger to the cross the greatest gift was bought by the Lord, our God, who lived and died so that we may spend eternity with him in heaven.
The greatest gift of all, the grace of God! The bread of life.

Sourdough will never NOT be beautiful to me.
When I get caught up with cookies and all the complexity of decorating, I miss the simplicity of my bread.
Everyone will tell you that sourdough is complex. It’s measured, each gram must be accurate and accounted for.
I don’t bake bread that way.
I keep a thick starter, makes the bread sweet!
I track every thing by feel.
I am strict with how I feed my starter and this is why.

That beautiful gluten network. The strings and holes fascinate me.
It’s so simple, but so complex on its own.
Flour. Water. Time. - that’s it.

Similar to how life can be so complex but so simple.
Pray. Believe. Breathe. Let God handle the rest. He will let you know when the feeling is right.

What a week it has been! So many cookies to get out and so much going on with the kids. As it’s coming to an end I feel like I can take a deep breath. For the moment. Maybe even see the kitchen counters for a day or two before I begin on January orders.

What a weekend! In the process of making 8 dozen cookies for our youth group and lots of loaves to give away!
I thought it would be adorable to put Star of Bethlehem, Crosses, and trees on the loaves.
The loaves had other plans.
Our cookies are a simple manger scene because can you ever impress a bunch of teens anyway?
