Born from attending a few too many beer festivals, my pocket journals and other tasting tools are perfect sidekicks for food and drink geeks’, providing an easy way to make tasting notes in a small, convenient notebook format.

I‘m posting from my “Ship Shack,” the tiny studio I built this spring. I managed to cram my 118-year-old printing press, guillotine cutter, tasting journals and all the trimmings into just under 200 square feet. There’s even room for me! Barely.

Seems like a great time to hold a little Spring Sale. Today and tomorrow, I’m offering a rare 20% off sale. Breathing room for me, tasty treats for you. Win-win!
Just use code SHIPSHACK when you check out.

My new morning commute seems pretty great, at least when the sun is shining!

Broadcasting live from my new ship shack! Over the last four months I’ve been moving out of my old studio and into a new much tinier one on my own property. It feels great to have a space I won’t have to move out of!

Sometimes you just have to do a little extra. The cover on my new book journal actually comes in two flavors, both inspired by fine old books. made me two different marble paper designs printed on the cover in ink, which I then finish with a gold foil.

Hey it’s me, Dave. CEO, creator, accountant, shipping manager and Chief Janitor at 33 Books Co., checking in on Small Business Saturday from an undisclosed yurt (really) somewhere in the Willamette Valley. This is hustle season (working 80 hours to avoid working 40), and I’ll be at today from 11-5. Next weekend, and and . If you’ve met me before you’ll know that I don’t usually wear a tie. This was from a Halloween a few years back where I dressed up as a big business man. You see, I’m a small business man, and it was a bit of a lark. Pretty funny to print in a necktie. All this to say it’s a busy time, but I am so grateful for all your orders and support this year, last year, or 16 years ago, when this all started with an idea for a pocket beer tasting notebook. As you’re planning your holiday gifts this year, myself and a bunch of other little guys like me really appreciate it when you choose a small business over a big one. Even if we don’t always wear neck ties. 😂

Trip 1 of 3 to Seattle is this Friday. Come see me Friday evening and all day Saturday. I’ll have a whole bunch of prints, books and about six of these pretty neat advent calendars. Come say hi and let’s talk hot dogs!

And here’s the final printed piece. It really does feel like magic to see this thing that you’ve just imagined to come to life right before your eyes as you print that final color.

I’ve got a plate locked up and now it’s time to print. Here’s a little video showing the first in color going down on my hop print.

Watch as I print a new letterpress print on a 1909 printing press. The first step is getting the plate locked up before I mount it on the press.
