Thank you to everyone who has reached out, sent stories and photos, shared memories, and has cried, laughed, and mourned with us this past week.

Yesterday, we laid Lauro to rest with a mariachi and mezcal surrounded by his family and friends and his dog Raymond, and we know he is finally resting.
A special thank you to .or for bringing some of his favorite dishes and treats and coffee and feeding his people - just as Lauro would have done.

We know so many were touched by this great man and want to put what he taught you to use in a way to honor him, so we want to encourage anyone that wants to give proceeds of a dish or drink or product to the GoFundMe to please go ahead and do so (let us know if you’re doing it so we can let people know through this page!).

We had a trip planned to Mexico starting on Monday, so we will be going on that and using the time to breathe and celebrate him and our friends getting married, but rest assured we will be planning events and dinners and so on in his memory when we come back.

We’re so thankful for the outpouring of love and support the last few days.
We share in the collective disbelief and heartbreak at the loss of our Chef, friend, teacher, leader, father, brother, and all the other things Lauro was to so many of us.
Above you’ll find the details for the viewing, service, and reception so we can all be around those that loved him most.
Our friends and at have generously offered up their space for us to raise a glass to ; we’ll be there at 8pm and go until we can’t cry/laugh any more.

We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of love for our Chef. But of course, it’s to expected with the caliber of person he was.
We have loved reading the comments and would like to ask to keep the stories coming and also, to please send any photos you have of him that you would like to share. We are preparing a slide show for the service and celebrations of life to come (more info on those later) and would love to source from the community he loved and loved him back.

It is with heavy hearts that we are sharing the news of the passing of our dear, beloved Chef Lauro Romero. Lauro passed peacefully in his sleep the morning of Friday, February 16th.
Many of us were lucky to call Lauro a leader, mentor, friend, and collaborator over his lauded career. He was a true inspiration and a pioneer going on to not only make his mark on the Portland food scene, but also went as far as transforming what it looks like. Lauro led with quiet confidence, always sure of who he was, showing boundless creativity and an incomparable talent. This is what made him a mentor to so many in this industry, and his humor, goofiness, and humility is what drew so many to him.
He always rose to the top, and he always brought his people up with him.
Aside from his many accomplishments, anyone who knew him would tell you that what really made his eyes light up was his pride in his two amazing daughters, Citlalli and Naia. He would be the first to say that the legacy he’d most want to be known for is the love he had for his girls.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, we ask that any communication, questions, well-wishes come through this account via DM, or email at [email protected]. This is the only point of contact where information about him, the upcoming services, and fundraising will be coming from.

Clandestino x Dame will be closed today and tomorrow for dinner service. We encourage you to go show support for De Noche, Matta, Chelo, and Dame when they open later this week.

Because our team is very small and everyone plays an essential part in their role here, we would not be able to open tonight or tomorrow.
We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause but appreciate the understanding from our guests. Due to us not operating as normal, we will do our best to make up the lost wages.

I want to acknowledge why we are closing. It is serious and very upsetting. A cook on my team, and former co-worker from our time at República, showed very poor judgement when he showed up at De Noche and escalated things into an ugly situation.

Jane and I are here for anyone at De Noche who wants to be heard and supported. Unequivocally, everyone deserves to be safe at work (and everywhere).

Jane (from the Collective) and I were able to talk with him, at length, last night. He is embarrassed and ashamed that he scared people and let his anger come out in such a way. He understands the need to acknowledge this and work to heal the rupture. At this point, we have insisted that he take space and if and when those affected by his action want any personal repair, we can help mediate that process.

This is an example of how personal responsibility is so important, when you’re a member of a whole. 

De Noche and to the Dame team, I am so sorry this happened and is affecting you all deeply.

Time is no joke, and we can’t believe it’s been 8 months since we first took up space here at Lil’ Dame. But now the time has come for us to move on (not too far ;)) and welcome our good friends to come work their magic in this beautiful place.

And as of next Monday, August 21st, we’ll be doing our thing in the main space; same days, same hours but with more room to serve more of y’all and for bigger groups!

We are grateful to all of you that have shown up and let us share this special place and this very special piece of our story and food. We also want to take this moment to thank Jane and Chef for all their kindness and continuously sharing their spaces with the community!

Time is no joke, and we can’t believe it’s been 8 months since we first took up space here at Lil’ Dame. But now the time has come for us to move on (not too far ;)) and welcome our good friends to come work their magic in this beautiful place.

And as of August 16th, we’ll be doing our thing in the main space; same days, same hours but with more room to serve more of y’all and for bigger groups!
