Duckies enjoying some splash time. I got splashed so many times. Looks like all the ducks we hatched looking like they might be all females. None have a drake curl on their tails. So that's exciting!

I'm pretty sure this is a little roo in hiding.
Sure is gorgeous though. A Dark Brahma Silver Laced Cochin mix.

This one has created a bond on its own when it was days old. Jumped in my hand and cuddled with me. Would continue to want to be picked up when I'd do things in the brooder. Now that this one has been running around with everyone in the run I believe the bond has been severed. No more asking for attention sadly. I think fate has intervened knowing I cannot get attached to any boys.

All boys that get hatched that grow out here are sold for meat. I already have 3 boys and honestly don't need anymore that doesn't fit my breeding needs. I don't have separate coops and runs yet! So we're at a stand still of who I can keep. Now if one happens to outshine the rest and completely creates a loving bond with me and is a completely good boy then I'll consider it, but until then I simply can't.

As much as it breaks my heart to see my boys grow out into beautiful birds they must go between 20-30 weeks. We'll be at 7 weeks on Saturday/Sunday from this hatch. After August 8th all appropriate age and weight boys will be processed. They go knowing that they were loved and they had good lives. I give each one a cuddle and love before they go. We are thankful for their lives that were spent with us.

Realistically we always end up with more boys. Every hatch I pick some to keep and apparently I'm just that amazing at picking boys. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ I am hoping with the 2 broody momma's sitting on eggs we will end up with more ladies, cause all of those we will be growing out. Only time will tell with those.

Babies enjoying fresh cut grass!

πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ’šπŸ–€

This year is going to be crazy with babies. All my 6 week old chicks are mostly boys. I have two broody hens sitting on eggs. I hatched out some recently that my blue cochin got off her nest to adopt two chicks and the oldest duckling, so those went into the incubator and some did hatch so those are in the house. And with my two big boys separated we're going to be letting my Fibro Easter Egger get into mating the ladies so hopefully in a couple weeks we'll be able to collect eggs to incubate to give it enough time for the big boys s***m to get out of the ladies system to allow Jaspers to flourish.

Trying to get some fibro babies so we can have parts of our breeding program in progress.

Chicken saddles came today. Only took the girls who needed them all of two minutes to go crazy and accept their fate. 🀣 They did freak out running around crazy thinking they were being attacked to settling down and being normal. So far everything is good.

My two bigger boys are separated to give the ladies a break because a few became the two boys favorites. Plus it's spring and my Brahma still has teenage hormones. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Next year hopefully will be better.

This coop takes hours for me to clean.
But once I get done it's so pretty.
I only clean my coop every few months or longer depending on how bad it gets. I do the deep litter method on the floor and the p**p shelf. I also put feed bags as liners for the p**p shelf to save the linoleum. I dust my coop with wettable sulfur keeps the mites and lice away. And all this bedding becomes its own ecosystem after awhile and breaks down. For bedding I do shavings and pellets and this time I added h**p too. I also add a stall refresher to keep the smell down.

I got two broody ladies in the brooder. Aspen wanted water don't worry after the video was taken they got fresh water.

Look at all the babies! We have so many ducklings right now! πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ’šπŸ–€
