Welcome to Eggstraordinary Farm,
Over the last 5 years, my small farm was born out of my love for poultry, gardening and natural medicine. Combining my knowledge of herbalism and holistic theories and eliminating chemically based farming. I have been able to raise healthier, stronger, and ultimately more vibrant birds. Eggstraordinary Farm is one of the few to reestablish grass roots farming with
poultry and waterfowl. In 2009, after having lost my entire flock of layers to wildlife, I established a method of natural husbandry. I removed the original, full time enclosures to allow the birds to free-range on 3 acres of land. A new greenhouse was built, improvements to nighttime housing for the birds were made, and gardens were added to grow food and herbs. At this point, I eliminated medicated feeds and began to practice natural medicine with my flock. With all the improvements in 2009, the farm blossomed. I was able to sell an ample supply of the surplus eggs. During the last three years I have become certified as an herbalist and am now raising a variety of herbs to meet the farm’s natural health needs. Green and fermented feeds were put in use. In November of 2012, the new barn was built which provided the farm with enough space to hatch and sell chicks, ducklings and goslings. In 2013, the farm was officially registered as a poultry farm with the State of Vermont. As I make plans for 2014, the farm for the first time will offer classes for hatching your own poultry and waterfowl. I also am planning a program with daycare centers and schools to teach children about hatching poultry and waterfowl. A basic health care and keeping of poultry and waterfowl class will give the beginner the necessary tools to start raising chickens, ducks and geese. I will also have a special butchering and preserving class in the fall for those who would like to become self-sufficient with backyard farming. I will continue to offer the Easter Party and work with Wells River Saving Bank for the free Easter Egg Hunt. I will continue selling eggs, as well as offering hand blown eggs and humanely collected feathers for crafting.
