Amber waves of grain. I just walked outside to pick the last of the spring asparagus for dinner and was captivated by our wheat.
Why we plant wheat….
1) it is a great ground cover that keeps weeds from growing in the garden
2)it keeps our garden soil from blowing away in the spring winds
3) feed for the chickens. They love this stuff
4) BREAD! We will harvest this wheat and grind it to make our own flour.
Hard red winter wheat! It is a garden staple 7C6 Farm. We give up the purple mountain majesties for amber waves of grain out here in West Texas.

Most years we eat Asparagus as soon as we pick it. But this year I left town for a couple of weeks and well Curt doesn’t know how to cook asparagus on his own, so we had a massive (well sort of massive) pile when I got home. I LOVE the smell of asparagus and this year I got to can it!! 7C6 Farm

Find a friend that does all the hard things and get it from them! Want jelly yo go with your bread, call me. I have a ton! Want fresh eggs? When you butcher your own animals you get all the parts - even the ones you don’t want to eat. But the dogs do! So tonight I’m canning homemade dogfood made with the organ meats - liver, heart, kidneys and spleen. We use it all 7C6 Farm. I added sweet potato, brown rice and apples. Harold says it’s delicious.
