Grimes Golden is the most versatile of apples. Great for cider, for pie, for sauce, and most of all for fresh eating. It is ready and abundant!

We have Jonathan, Spencer, Rubinette, King David, and Kidds Orange Red. They are all pretty extraordinary apples, though I admit the King David is my favorite. Favorite today anyway.
We also have Seckel pears, those little sugar bombs. We also have them at the Moscow Food Coop.
Finally, hope to aee you at the Phillips Farm Fall Festival this Saturday, October 11, 11:00-2:00. Diane and I will be hosting an apple tasting. Should have about 20 varieties.

The Arlet, also known as the Swiss Gourmet, is almost too pretty to eat. But go ahead and take a bite and you’ll find its taste is even better than its looks. Aromatic and crisp, with a wonderful balance of sweet and tart.

Forgot to mention these little gems, the Dolgo crabs. Great for pickling, but best as jelly!

It’s that time of year! Like every year, we worry about frost. After a cold snap in April, when we lost a lot of buds, The weather gods have been pretty gracious. Possible frost tomorrow night, but then night time temps mellow. Then all we have to worry about are codling moth, fireblight, scab, hail, drought…. Otherwise, we might be looking at a fabulous crop!

Camping at Potholes State Park in central Washington. As we were enjoying cocktails, a skein of snowgeese flew over. Skein after skein. 1500, 2000? It was spectacular!
