Now I actually didn’t pick this one up in Argentina, but swapped it here in Chicago with the CEO of Barbarians Wine Group Mauricio Boullaude (who now has some Michigan wine back in Argentina).

Barbarians is a group of independent family wineries, making wines from Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco, in Mendoza. And while each of the winemakers at Barbarians reflects their own style in the wines, sustainable viticulture, minimal intervention, and respecting the local community are the common threads throughout.

And that respect for the community and each other is something I can personally attest to having witnessed both through Mauricio and across Argentina. They walk the walk. ❤️

As for this 💯 Malbec, it comes from a vineyard located at 4,600 feet with sandy loam soil. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts. It’s fresh and fruity with a softer, more elegant structure and only 13.5% abv.

It’s been a fab sipper this week to keep Argentina memories alive and strong. And it’s a perfect example of the vast range of Malbec available from Argentina. This one for example, hit just right with my spaghetti with meat sauce, and would be equally delicious with poultry, pork, or even a veggie stir fry. Yum!

Like I said, we’ll do a much deeper dive back into the wines and regions of Argentina after the holidays, but until then, I’m planning to keep on traveling back in my glass.

Now who’s ready for Sunday’s big game?! Vamos!!!! 🇦🇷⚽️

With the holiday festivities around the corner, why not consider an Argentinian red for your guests and table.

Bonarda (aka Charbonneau, Corbeau, Douce Noir) is the second most planted red varietal in Argentina after Malbec. How is it different from Malbec? It has a signature deep ruby color, lighter tannins, bright and juicy red fruit, moderate acidity and alcohol.

𝑀𝑒𝓇𝒸𝑒𝒹 𝒹𝑒𝓁 𝐸𝓈𝓉𝑒𝓇𝑜 𝑀𝒾𝓁 𝒱𝒾𝑒𝓃𝓉𝑜𝓈 𝐿𝒶 𝐵𝑒𝒷𝒾𝒹𝒶 𝐵𝑜𝓃𝒶𝓇𝒹𝒶 𝟤𝟢𝟣𝟨

A boutique family winery focused on creating approachable quality wines for all walks of wine lovers. The 790m the altitude influences are clear in its bright juicy fruit and acidity where the higher diurnal range leads to higher acid levels and fresher fruit flavors.

The aromas full of fruit and floral vibrancy - black raspberry, blackberries, figs, black cherry and violets intermingled with oak aromas of vanilla and cardamom. Silky on the palate, it has soft tannins, shining bright acidity and freshness. Medium bodied wine presents the lovely black fruit and floral notes balanced with the smoke, coffee, chocolate, bramble, mint and earthy graphite. A wine to discover if you have never tasted Bonarda.

Pair with Beef Wellington, pork roast stuffed with cranberry walnut stuffing or classic roast Turkey.

Thanks to who’s carefully selected boutique wines are always top notch and excellent quality.

Hi! Guess what?

My boyfriend is having his day this week! That’s right, December 4th is Cabernet Franc day.

Who’s going to celebrate with me and show this variety some love? You know I’ll be crushing hard, but this year it’s going to be on Argentine Cab Franc like this one.

If you caught my stories last night, you saw that it was girls’ night and our theme for the evening was Argentine Malbec. Getting a little pre-trip study in. And while we certainly sampled some beautiful Malbecs, it was the 2019 Punto AR Cab Franc from stole the show.

There’s just something so earthy and mineral driven in Argentine Cab Francs. They’ve been quite unlike the cool climate styles I’m most familiar with and aren’t like anything out of California either. They’re a unique expression all their own, which to me says it’s indicative of its place.

As for Bodega A16, it’s a project started by a 4th generation wine industry Argentinean with Sicilian roots, Gerardo Cartellone in 2007. Here you’ll find a commitment to sustainability, passion, and people.

In fact, A16 credits the terroir of Perdriel in Luján de Cuyo for the character in the wine, and that terroir includes the “soil, water, climate, and people.” I absolutely believe the growers and makers lend to terroir - their hands, backs, hearts, heads, and souls - and I appreciate wineries that feel the same. ❤️

Now, what are you waiting for, get out and find this beauty or at the very least an Argentine Cab Franc for the big day. 🍷

Cheers my friends!

Laughter in the background, 🎶 Santa Maria by Gotan Project 🎶music quietly filling the air, friends smiling, entranced by another shining example of Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina - Seducción…….

ᴀʟᴀᴄʀÁɴ ꜱᴇᴅᴜᴄᴄɪÓɴ ᴍᴀʟʙᴇᴄ 2018

A seduction of the senses is the best way to describe it - a deep intense purple color bursting with ripe black fruit aromatics - chocolate, violet, to***co, leather, baking spice. The bold mouthfeel doesn’t disappoint with velvet tannins that envelope your mouth because never want the sensations to end. The dominant ripe fruit black cherry, blueberry, blackberry and plum jam are in the forefront with with bramble, licorice, cocoa and smoke are enveloped by a tart acidity. The excitement of this full bodied wine cannot help but enliven your senses. An excellent QPR.

Enjoyed with a variety empanadas - spiced beef empanadas and mushroom as well as aged cheddar and Gouda 😋

Check out my previous post for more on this producer.

Big thanks to for for sharing this lovely wine with me.
