The raspberry patches are open for picking this morning starting at 8 AM. The crop of early red raspberries is the best I have seen in quite a while and this is peak season. They appear to be ripening with in a very concentrated pattern so I expect that 95% of the early red raspberry harvest will be complete this week so come sooner rather than later if you want red raspberries. The black caps (raspberries) should be starting by the end of this week with peak season next two weeks.
Raspberry u-pick times are semi informal. We will be around Monday mornings 8- 11 am, Wednesday evening 5-7 pm and Saturday mornings 8- 11 am. Come back to the house for check in/ check out. This schedule repeats every week through the raspberry season. You can call me @ 315 261 3086
The strawberry patches are open for free gleaning. This will end later this week when I renovate the strawberries in prep for next year. Daniel

Tomorrow morning (July 4th) the berry patches will open for u-pick starting at 7 AM. The early red raspberries are at their peak season with picking conditions as good as they ever are. We picked 30 pints in a short time this morning and I was just making trails in the dense parts of the patch. There are areas in the strawberry patches that have remarkably good picking for the end of season and those little gems are so rich and sweet. Tomorrow is the last formal strawberry picking for this season and after that all the strawberry patches will be in free gleaning status (no charge, no checkout) during the daytime weekdays.
U-pick raspberries will continue for the next few weeks on a semi- informal basis. (Check out will be back at our house or call me @ 315 261 3086 with open times on Monday morning starting 8 AM, Wednesday evening starting 5 PM and Saturday starting at 8 AM The black cap raspberries should be ready starting in about a week. Raspberry patches can be a jungle and the best berries are not only on the edge. To have access to the whole selection of available picking I recommend coming prepared to press into the inside of the patch. My preferred attire for this is long pants on my legs and good shoes. I personally prefer a short sleeve shirt with my arms bare so I can reach in nicely however some pickers like long sleeves. Very important is a picking container that is fastened to a belt so that both hands are free so one can either pick with both hands or in many cases it helps to be able to have a free hand to hold a choice cane full of berries up so that one can see and easily reach the berries with the other hand. A small bucket or basket can work well to pick in. I usually use a gallon jug that has the top cut so that it is open but the handle is still on. I put one or two of these on my belt and have my berry flats sitting somewhere nearby. As soon as there are a few inches of berries in my jug I dump them in the pints before they get crushed from their own weight.
We will have the strawberry and raspberry patches open for picking this evening (July 1) starting at 5 PM. The picking conditions in the raspberry patches are as good as it ever gets. I was opening rows this morning and picked 25 pints in a very small area. There are still quite a lot of strawberries but it is at the end of the season so the berries are small. Come get them. U-pick strawberries and raspberries will be open tomorrow evening (July 1) starting at 5 PM. I was just out scouting the fields and got a nice surprise. The red raspberries are ripe, not just a few, it looks like peak season. There are also lots of ripe strawberries. This is the last week of strawberry season so they are mostly small. After tomorrow we will pick both raspberries and strawberries on Saturday morning (July 4) starting at 7 AM. After Saturday the strawberry patches will go to free (no checkout) gleaning and we will keep posting raspberry picking times. The black raspberries should be starting in 7-10 days. Daniel

We picked all the way across the patches this morning so other than a few pockets of missed berries not much left for this evening. If anyone wants to find those spots this evening call me (Daniel) @315 261 3086 or drive back to the house after 6 pm Next picking Wednesday (July 1) starting at 5 PM.

There are still lots of ripe berries in the strawberry patches that will not hold till Wednesday with the somewhat hot weather forecast. This is the late part of strawberry season when the berries are ripening very quickly. Tomorrow morning (Monday June 29) I will be letting anyone who comes pick from 8 Am till about 11 or noon and if there are still berries left, again after supper ( 6 PM till Dark)
The triangle patch is near finished so that patch is open for half price gleaning when we are open this week. After tomorrow we will be picking Wednesday evening and the last formal picking time for the strawberry season will be Saturday morning July 4.
After Saturday all the patches will be open for gleaning with no checkout and no charge. ( Yes, I mean Free!) Daniel

There are still many hundreds of quarts of berries in the strawberry patches here at Martins Berry Hill Farm. The patches will remain open for u-pick through the afternoon hours today. (June 27) It is getting towards the later part of strawberry season. These berries are smaller than the first pickings but they are so richly flavored, sweet and abundant. Daniel

The strawberry patches are open for picking this morning. The early rush did not take all the berries today so as of now there is still plenty available for the next wave of pickers throughout the morning. Come and get them now as the season goes past quickly. Daniel
